Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, on Thursday, drew a barrage of negative comments on Twitter after she took a swipe at President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump for posting a pro-family picture amid coronavirus fears in the country.

Trump took to Twitter calling for families to make the best of their time at home together during self-isolation, suggesting that they organize a "living room camp out" along with some food.

"A fun activity that also brings family together for a meal!” she tweeted. The post included a picture of her with her children in a camp erected in their living room. Trump, a senior White House adviser, also invited her 8.1 million followers on Twitter to share their own ideas using the hashtag #TogetherApart.

The 38-year-old, in another tweet, wrote: "It won’t mitigate the fear and pain, but it may foster some joy. Let’s come together as a community and share ideas on how to entertain our children (and each other) and create some positive memories in an otherwise frightening moment."

Congresswoman Omar, however, responded to Trump's post to make a political point about the president's controversial policies at the US-Mexico border, which ended in the separation of immigrant families.

"Thinking of all the families separated forcefully by your father’s policies today," Omar wrote. The Minnesota Representative then mocked Trump's tweet, inviting her to "share your ideas on how you plan to unite them."

Omar's comment, however, drew ire from Trump's followers, with many suggesting that the congresswoman's recent divorce and subsequent marriage did not qualify her to criticize another woman's comments on the subject of family. It is reported that the congresswoman allegedly had an extramarital affair with her current husband and campaign fundraising chief Tim Mynett.

One Twitter user commented: "Why do you need to be so hateful? Ivanka shared a simple family suggestion and you had to be spiteful and mean. Not something a true leader would do. Awful. I’m praying for this country to heal in all ways. You should try it."

Another said: "They separated themselves when they decided to break the law," referring to migrants arriving at the US-Mexico border. “Now? During the crisis? Free immigration now?” another asked. “Open borders? You’ve displayed your opportunistic political virtue signaling, lack of patriotism and blatant hypocrisy once again.”

While there were others who joined Omar in slamming Trump. One wrote: "Cool tent Ivanka. I hope you thanked whichever one of your servants set it up for you.” While another said: "Cool privilege on display."
