Coronavirus: Gloria Gaynor launches #IWillSurviveChallenge on TikTok to encourage people to wash hands
Grammy-award winning singer Gloria Gaynor had swung into action in this new age of the deadly coronavirus by utilizing the song she is probably best known for — the 1978 disco smash hit 'I Will Survive'.
The method she has employed is both simple and effective and is guaranteed to make sure people combat this new global pandemic with maximum awareness and a minimum of fuss.
The singer recently premiered her #IWillSurviveChallenge on video-sharing platform TikTok and the virus-combating clip has been going "viral" ever since. You can click here to see the video she posted.
In the short video clip, the 70-year-old Gaynor is seen washing and lathering up her hands, while singing along to the chorus of her popular song 'I Will Survive'. Gaynor was mainly doing her part in encouraging people to wash their hands for about 20 seconds each time, in order to prevent the coronavirus from spreading further.
The Centers for Disease Control has recommended that people wash, lather and rinse their hands thoroughly for a minimum of 20 seconds in order to eradicate any harmful contaminants.
Although the song had become the ultimate breakup song when it was first released and was even adopted as an unofficial anthem by the LGBTQ community, Gaynor has breathed new life into the song by using it as the soundtrack to literal survival.
"It only takes 20 seconds to 'SURVIVE'!" read the video's caption, which was posted by Gaynor on TikTok on the night of March 10, and the legendary singer's hand-washing video has received more than 21,000 views already.
No doubt, the song's enduring popularity, and its eerily appropriate title may have helped contribute to the #IWillSurviveChallenge going viral. Plenty of fans are already taking up the challenge on TikTok, with the hashtag itself garnering over 1.5 million views on the viral video platform.
There are plenty of hilarious video responses up already too, so make sure you check them all out. Just remember to wash your hands first, please.
