'Constellation' on Apple TV+: Eagle-eyed fans speculate 'third universe' theory ahead of series finale
STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN: The suspenseful journey in Apple TV+'s psychological thriller and sci-fi series 'Constellation' is on the verge of unraveling, with only two episodes left to premiere.
The plot revolves around astronaut Jo Ericsson (Noomi Rapace), who miraculously returns to Earth following a space mishap and discovers events of her life altered.
Built upon the principles of Quantum physics, 'Constellation' captivates fans with intricate scientific enigmas and terminology, keeping them engrossed in a web of complex mysteries.
Jo Ericsson and Paul Lancaster land in different realities in 'Constellation'
The series introduces us to two realities: In one, Paul Lancaster (William Catlett) dies on the International Space Station (ISS) while Jo successfully returns to Earth, bringing Paul's dead body back with her.
Conversely, in the alternate reality introduced in Episode 6, Jo meets a tragic end on the ISS, and Paul, leaving her body in space, manages to make it back to Earth.
While both characters survive in their respective parallel realities, they struggle to adapt to them. Paul finds himself in a reality devoid of the CAL experiment, while Jo grapples with a version of her daughter that doesn't resonate with her.
It's evident that they have both landed in the wrong realities, leading to increasingly complex events unfolding around them that surpass their comprehension.
'Constellation' is based on theory of multiverse
The fans of the show, however, believe that there are more than two realities. A fan took to Reddit and shared the theory of a third universe.
He mentioned, "There are 3 universes in the show. I think we will soon see the 3rd. I do know that the 3rd winter cabin was super creepy with the dead cat and it looking like no one has lived there in 30 years." His theory is backed by another fan who adds, "Someone was there to push the button for Jo as well. The same red button on the ship was blinking as well. Leaving there to be a 3rd person there (but not there)."
"There are infinite universes…thats the point of quantum physics…its not a simple binary main and alternate universe," adds another Reddit user who agrees with the series' concept of the multiverse.
According to the multiverse theory, each time an observation is made, a different quantum outcome manifests in another "world". This theory suggests a branching structure where our universe continually splits into countless alternative realities, each existing independently.
These alternate universes remain entirely separate and cannot intersect. Therefore, although there could be numerous versions of oneself leading slightly or drastically different lives, one would never be aware of them.
The Apple TV+ series explores this theory and extends its fictional narrative by depicting a scenario where these alternate universes unexpectedly intersect, leading to heightened chaos and intrigue.
