Connie Talbot: From the 6-year-old star of 'Britain's Got Talent' to America's latest sweetheart
Connie Talbot first caught people's eye in 2007 as an angelic six-year-old girl with a voice to match on the first season of the popular star-search show 'Britain's Got Talent'.
A preternaturally talented Connie blew the judges away with a pitch-perfect rendition of 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow', leaving the judges teary-eyed and awestruck at her vocal capabilities. What a voice this little girl had!
Connie would go on to become a viral sensation in the worldwide music community, and the talented toddler would eventually make the finals of 'Britain's Got Talent'.
Piers Morgan, one of the judges, even said that she was probably the best six-year-old singer in the world at that point, and he would have been correct. Not many people, let alone little children, possessed the singing pipes and technique that Connie could boast of.
On the strength of this success, Talbot signed a six-figure deal with the Rainbow Recording Company. Her debut album 'Over the Rainbow' which released in November 2007, sold over a quarter-million copies worldwide and also hit number one in three countries.
Not bad for a six-year-old! She would go on to release three more albums after that — 'Connie Talbot's Christmas Album' in November 2008, 'Holiday Magic' in October 2009 and her fourth record, 'Beautiful World', was released in November 2012. She also made an appearance on 'Britain's Got Talent: The Champions' in 2019.
And now, Connie has come to take over America! Currently a gifted 19-year-old, Connie Talbot made her American TV debut with an outstanding vocal performance on Monday night's episode of 'America's Got Talent: The Champions', that aired on January 27.
Sitting at the piano, Connie sang a breathtaking rendition of one of her own originals, 'I Would', a sweeping love song which received a standing ovation from judges Heidi Klum, Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel and Alesha Dixon.
Heidi, who recently got married to Tom Kaulitz, was particularly moved by the sentimental ballad, saying that it would be perfect for the first dance at a wedding.
With a chorus that goes, "Would you give all your life? If I gave you all of mine? Would you love me unconditionally? Breathe the air I breathe? Do anything for love?" — it's certainly hard not to picture a happy couple swaying to it now!
Simon, who was stunned by Connie's talents all the way back in 2007, had this to say about her incredible American debut: "I've always wanted for America to get to know you, hear your talent, and [for you to] perform in front of an American audience with your own song, and you nailed it," he beamed proudly. "I think you did great."
