1-year-old Connecticut girl Venessa Morales missing from home where her mom was found dead in suspected murder could be in great danger, say police
ANSONIA, CONNECTICUT: Authorities are currently trying to locate a one-year-old girl who went missing from her home after the “suspicious” death of her mother. "The Ansonia Police Department is attempting to locate a missing one-year-old child, Venessa Morales, who may be endangered. Venessa was living in Ansonia on Myrtle Avenue at a residence where there is an active suspicious death investigation, however, Venessa was not in the home and we have not been able to locate her," the Ansonia Police Department posted on their Facebook page along with a picture of Vanessa.
The missing child has been described as "a white female with brown hair and brown eyes."
Venessa has not been seen and is feared to be “endangered” after her mother was found dead at her Ansonia home. Police Chief Andy Cota III confirmed the child's mother “did not die of natural causes”.
After the unnamed woman failed to show up at her workplace, her employer called the Ansonia police, notifying them that there had been no contact from the woman and that she had not called in sick. After receiving the concerned call from the employer, police conducted two welfare checks at the woman's house, the Sun reported. Although multiple officers attempted to establish contact with the child's mother the first time around they received no response at the house.
After that, the woman's family members called the authorities, saying that they couldn’t reach her. During the second welfare check, officers forced their way into the house and found a woman's body inside.
The woman's cause of death is yet to be determined as the police await the results of an autopsy.
The father of the child, who sometimes used to stay at her mother's place was interrogated by the authorities, although they refused to say whether he was being considered as a person of interest in the case of the missing child. They did confirm that the father was cooperating with the police. “We have no identified suspects in the case at this time,” Ansonia Lt. Patrick Lynch said.
“We are following several leads and we are tracking those down as we go.”
Anyone with any information on the child's whereabouts has been requested to call the Ansonia Police Department at 203-735-1885.
