After Travis Scott's collaboration with McDonald's we have another star who has collaborated with a famous food brand for a cause. It is Ben and Jerry's time to sell vegan flavored icecream and they are doing it with a flavor called 'Change the Whirled'. A portion of the funds from selling the pints of ice cream will be donated to Colin Kaepernick's Know Your Rights Camp Foundation. Ben and Jerry's official website released a blog on how the flavor was created and why, and the popular ice cream brand explained, "We both care deeply about and focus much of our time and energy on advancing issues of social and racial justice. We both think ice cream creates joy and is a great way to bring people together."

The mission of Know Your Rights Camp is "to advance the liberation and well-being of Black and Brown communities through education, self-empowerment, mass-mobilization, and the creation of new systems that elevate the next generation of change leaders." The new flavor of icecream hopes to support this mission. However, the first time Ben and Jerry's approached Kaepernick for a collab, things did not work out. "We first approached him in 2018 to see if we could partner with Know Your Rights Camp (KYRC)—the organization he developed to empower and educate a new generation of Black and Brown youth—through our limited release Pecan Resist flavor. We were using Pecan Resist to help raise funds for a number of crucial racial and social justice organizations and we wanted KYRC on that list. Unfortunately, the timing just didn’t work out," noted the blog.

The blog further added, "In the spring of 2020, as the pandemic began hitting our country hard—Black, Brown, and indigenous communities hardest of all—we made a donation to KYRC so that they could amplify their COVID-19 relief work. With the site-based/physical camps on hold, KYRC expanded its efforts, using its established partnerships in frontline communities to quickly get help to people and organizations that needed it most." It was this renewed connection that made the collaboration fruitful.

Speaking about this collaboration Kaepernick also said, "Their commitment to challenging the anti-Black roots of policing in the United States demonstrates a material concern for the wellbeing of Black and Brown communities. My hope is that this partnership will amplify calls to defund and abolish the police and to invest in futures that can make us safer, healthier, and truly free.”

Flavor:

So you must wonder what exactly is the flavor of this ice cream inspired by a 33-year-old former NFL quarterback who also happens to be vegan. The non-dairy "frozen dessert" is sunflower butter base, and the filling would be that of caramel, fudge chips, graham cracker, and chocolate cookie swirls.

Price:

The suggested retail cost for the icecream ranges between $4.99 to $5.49 depending on if the flavor is pre-packed or handpicked.

Where is it available:

This flavor of Ben and Jerry's will be available in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.
