Dr Jonathan Reiner did not mince his words while condemning Donald Trump for "hiding" getting the Covid-19 vaccine. On Monday, March 1, Reiner appeared on CNN and slammed the former president after he hinted at getting the vaccination “secretly” during his 90-minute speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Sunday, February 28. Trump reportedly told the audience, “How unpainful that vaccine shot is, so everybody go get your shot”.

Responding to Trump's remarks at the CPAC, Dr Reiner said, “In a similar fashion to the politicization of masks, we've seen the same thing now to a little bit of a lesser degree, but nonetheless there with the vaccines.”

He continued, “Another poll by the Gallup Organization last week asked people if a vaccine was available for them right now would they take it? And 91 percent of Democrats said yes. 51 percent of Republicans said yes. So we must close that gap. So what an opportunity for the most respected Republican, the former president of the United States, to make a big statement, to be publicly seen getting vaccinated. Yet he did not do that. Why would he not do that?”

When anchor Brianna Keilar suggested, “It gives him a chance to brag. Two of these were approved under his watch." Dr Reiner jumped in and said, “Right. Take a victory lap. So why wouldn't the former president do that? It is either something like he didn't want to estrange the vaccine denier population of his base, or something completely insane, which is he didn't want to roll up his sleeve in public? The net result is incredibly destructive. We saw what happened when he cast doubt on the utility of masks last year. Without the president's very visible assent to vaccines, it has just a devastating result on the acceptance of vaccines in people who doubt it right now."

People on Twitter also agreed with Dr Reiner as one user said, “Are we really surprised by the shysters? Deceive and deflect is the name of their game, so after calling Covid a hoax and wearing no masks Trump received the vaccine without saying a word.” The second one tweeted, “Trump got the vaccine before he left but he didn't even tell his supporters to get the shot. He still isn't telling his supporters. That's how much he care for your dummies. I'm just sitting back laughing at you fools. Who the dummy now. You don't have to answer that you have.”

Another user remarked, “After the sarcastic display and remarks vs President Biden at CPAC for getting the covid vaccine, we find out that both Donald and Melania Trump secretly received the covid vaccine before leaving the White House? #TuesdayThought.” A person sarcastically added, “I think Trump got his vaccine in private because he was too embarrassed for anyone to see his flabby arm… Just sayin…”

Meanwhile, during his Sunday speech, the Republican also claimed that his administration deserves more credit for helping fast-track vaccine development through Operation Warp Speed. "Never let them forget this was us. We did this,” he added. Trump previously repeatedly downplayed the deadly virus and had stated it would disappear "like magic". He had even ignored CDC guidelines of wearing masks and social distancing, before becoming a victim of the virus.
