Trump RNC speech: CNN cuts away from POTUS address to GOP delegates and calls him out for 'outright lies'
President Donald Trump had given a speech at the Republican National Convention on Monday, August 24, which CNN had cut away from. Monday also saw the GOP formally and officially nominating Trump for reelection. As he gave his speech after the nomination, 'CNN Newsroom' called him out for his "misleading" statements and "outright lies", Breitbart reports. Once the speech had been cut, CNN anchor Anderson Cooper said Trump had turned "negative" after promising to be "positive".
He also shared how Trump had attacked mail-in voting in addition to "falsely" accusing the Democrats of wanting to shut down the country in order to hurt the economy, thereby hurting him with regards to the ballot box. Cooper said, "After vowing to have a positive convention, the president goes negative in its first moments. He started off falsely attacking mail-in voting."
"He’s continuing attack mail-in voting and, as the postmaster general testifies that the attacks are 'unhelpful'. That’s his own postmaster general. He also criticized the media for airing the postmaster’s hearing instead of his roll call. He falsely accused Democrats of wanting to shut down the country to hurt the economy and somehow help them at the ballot box. Unclear how angering the entire country by shutting down would help them in the ballot box. He attacked North Carolina’s governor for putting limits on crowds during a convention," Cooper continued.
John King from CNN revealed that Trump's remarks undermine the 'challenge' for those who work in the news business. He also urged undecided voters to see Trump's RNC speech and watch how Trump is telling "outright lies". He shared, "This is a sad thing to say, but a lot of what you just heard from the President of the United States is wrong, misleading, and outright lies."
According to Deadline, Trump slammed media outlets for not covering the main state of affairs from the convention in Charlotte: the roll call of delegates. Trump had said that while on his trip to Charlotte on Air Force One, which has "more televisions than any plane in history", "I turned to CNN and they didn’t have this. Can you believe it? They didn’t have it. CNN didn’t have our roll call."
He also called out MSNBC which he often refers to as 'MS DNC', referring to the Democratic National Convention, and said they had carried it but that it featured the 'very boring' hearing of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. While slamming Fox News, Trump added, "Fox had it on, but unfortunately Fox wasn’t showing it too much because they had the announcers talking, talking, talking."
He revealed he had to switch to "C-SPAN or OAN or somebody." During his speech, Trump had also ranted about his rival Joe Biden.
After MSNBC had aired the speech, journalist Chuck Todd said Trump had delivered a "grievance-filled informal acceptance speech", which was "filled with so many problems about mail-voting that if we were to air only the truthful parts, we probably could have only aired only a sentence, if that much."
Social media users were left split at CNN's decision to cut from Trump's speech, with some users praising the move and some slamming it. One such user shared, "Maybe if he actually gave a speech and not a tantrum rant it would be worth covering. CNN knows we will shut him off rather than listen to his new and improved lies."

Another added, "Perfect. We’re sick of listening to trumpys lies. Plus he boringly rants about what he’s done in the past with inflated numbers and superlatives. Mark Levine is just as bad. He wants to be Limbaugh."

Mark Levine is just as bad.
He wants to be Limbaugh.
"Seriously though - what sane person still watches CNN except for comedic relief every now and then," commented a user slamming CNN.
