‘Clear Lake’: Release date, plot, cast and all you need to know about Bruce Beresford’s Buddy Holly biopic
The mastermind behind ‘Driving Miss Daisy’, Bruce Beresford, will be next directing ‘Clear Lake’, a film based on 1950s rock and roll legend Buddy Holly. Holly, who rose to fame with his 1957 song ‘That’ll Be the Day’, which sold more than a million records, passed away in 1959 in a plane crash in Clear Lake, Iowa. Release date
The production for ‘Clear Lake’, which is expected to begin in September 2020, is awaiting approval of new filming safety measures due to the pandemic. The release date for the movie is yet to be announced.
Plot
‘Clear Lake’ will follow Buddy as a teenager until his tragic death in the plane crash in 1959 at 22 along with Ritchie Valens and J Richardson. According to Aceshowbiz, “the film will also focus on Holly’s groundbreaking 1958 Biggest Show of Star trek with Clarence Collins, one of the first truly racially integrate tours in American history, as well as his marriage to Maria Elena Holly”

Bruce Beresford is said to direct ‘Clear Lake’ while Holly’s wife Maria Elena Holly will serve as the associate producer. Screenwriter Patrick Shanahan and executive producer Rick French are working with BGM and The Buddy Holly Educational Foundation for ‘Clear Water’. BMG manages the Buddy Holly estates and Holly music publishing catalog in the US.

When Bruce Beresford, who has won four Academy Awards for ‘Driving Miss Daisy’, was asked why he chose to direct ‘Clear Lake’, he told The Hollywood Reporter, “I found myself attracted to Clear Kake because the script tells the tragic story of Buddy Holly and his ear in fascinating detail and with vivid characterizations. Needless to say, the added plus of all the wonderful music was also a major lure.”
