Chuck Todd calls Vivek Ramaswamy 'most Trumpy', says GOP candidates 'directed their fire at him' at debate
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: ‘Today’ host Willie Geist welcomed NBC’s political director and the moderator of ‘Meet the Press’ Chuck Todd.
Todd and Geist dived straight into the two important events that took place on August 23 and 24, which were the GOP debate and the arrest of Donald Trump.
Todd first focussed on the GOP debate, where he had a lot to say about Indian-American entrepreneur and Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
According to Daily Mail, Ramaswamy won the first GOP debate, beating Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis.
In addition, Todd compared Ramaswamy to former President Trump and labeled the GOP candidate “Trumpy” on the ‘Today’ show.
Willie Geist questions Chuck Todd about the GOP debate
Willie Geist welcomed Chuck Todd and started off by mentioning the two important events that took place one after the other.
“On Wednesday night you had a debate stage with eight Republican candidates minus the front runner, Donald Trump. The next day, he is getting booked into jail in Fulton County Georgia,” said Geist.
Geist then asked Todd a two-part question, “Did anyone break through in any way on the stage, part two is, does it even matter when the front runner is up by twenty, thirty, forty points, depending on your poll.”
Chuck Todd says Vivek Ramaswamy was 'most Trumpy'
Todd started off by focusing on the debate, “I think there was an interesting tell by the candidates' behavior on the debate, and that is how much Trump is in their heads and frustrates them.”
Todd asked, “Most of the candidates directed their fire at Vivek Ramaswamy, and you might say, why did they do that?"
"He’s not second, he’s not first, but he was the most Trumpy on the stage, and in a way that you might punch a couch cushion because you’re frustrated," said Todd.
“They’re all frustrated dealing with Trump, so they found ways to go after Ramaswamy to go on issues that they would love to go after Trump on, but they don’t know how to do it,” explained Todd.
He added, “Whether it’s on Ukraine, whether it’s on some of the odd foreign policy positions that the two of them share.”
