‘The Christmas Chronicles 2’: Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn set to return as Santa and Mrs Claus
On Friday, November 6, Netflix made an announcement that sent ‘The Christmas Chronicles’ fans into a frenzy.
On their Twitter account, Netflix announced that the much-awaited sequel of the film titled ‘The Christmas Chronicles 2’ would be available for streaming in 2020, and that Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn would be returning to reprise their roles of Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus.
Netflix posted a picture of the stars dressed in their costumes with the caption: “Here's some news that will bring you cheer: our favorite Mr. & Mrs. Claus will be back next year! The #ChristmasChronicles2, on Netflix next holiday season."
‘Christmas Chronicles’ is a story of Santa (Kurt Russels) trying to instill Christmas spirit in two kids who are mourning the loss of their father.
The movie featured Kurt’s longtime partner Goldie Hawn as Mrs. Claus and their son Oliver Hudson played the role of the late father of the children.
Goldie was also excited to share the news with her fans and tweeted: “A year later and I'm still ringing Santa's jingle bells. I couldn't be happier to be working on Christmas Chronicles again with Kurt Russell, my real-life Santa @netflix 2020."
In an interview with People, Chis Columbus, the director of ‘Christmas Chronicles 2’, shared his experience working with the couple.
Columbus, who has directed movies like ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’, ‘Home Alone’, and ‘Harry Potter and Sorcerer’s Stone’, described the experience as “really, really fun”. He said, “There’s a tremendous amount of respect there and a tremendous amount of love and trust, partially because they’ve been together for so long. They just get along beautifully. There’s a lot of laughter and it’s just a really, really fun set.”
‘Christmas Chronicles 2’ will also see the return of the siblings—Kate (played by Darby Camp) and Teddy (Judah Lewis)—along with their mother Claire (Kimberly Williams Paisley).
New cast members include Julian Dennison, who will be reprising the role of Belsnickel, and Jahzir Bruno, who will be playing Jack.
Columbus, Mark Radcliffe, and Michael Barnathan will be producing the movie, while the script has been penned down by Matt Lieberman and Columbus.
