Christina Yuna Lee: 'Stop Asian hate' sign at memorial near murdered woman's Chinatown house torn
CHINATOWN, MANHATTAN: A makeshift memorial outside the apartment building of murdered Chinatown resident Christina Yuna Lee was vandalized overnight. Flowers and candles were laid out at a makeshift memorial for the slain woman on the sidewalk outside the building where she was brutally stabbed to death. However, some of the signs blaming anti-Asian hate were found destroyed on Wednesday, February 16.
"This morning, the candles that we have all lit as a community for her during the vigil and we all left out here were smashed. The ‘Stop Asian Hate’ sign was torn. One sign was ripped up. I threw it away,” New York Post quoted Brian Chin, the landlord of the Chrystie Street building where the murder took place, as saying. “I had to clean up all the shattered glass. I try to put the sign back together as best as I can … They try to desecrate her as much as they could and we as a community are beyond fed up, we are beyond angry and we are tired of being attacked,” he added. “We are tired of seeing this hatred and we are not going to stand for it anymore.”

Christina, 35, an Asian woman, was stabbed to death inside her Chinatown apartment early Sunday, February 13, after her alleged killer followed her home. A video surveillance recorded by the building owner shows Assamad Nash following closely behind the victim as she opens the front door and strolls into the hallway. Nash is then seen following her into her apartment, after which he reportedly ended up murdering her. She was knifed to death by the homeless serial criminal who was free on bail.
Minutes after Nash entered her apartment, a neighbor across the hallway heard her screaming and called 911 around 4.30 am, law enforcement came. "The owner of the building said, 'We’ve got cameras on every floor and in the front here. She got out of a cab right here and he followed her. He grabbed the front door just before it closed. He followed her all the way up, hanging back, staying one floor behind her all the way up to the sixth floor. Then, he waited until her door was just about closed and he went in," police said
Yuna Lee was found in her bathtub “bleeding from multiple wounds to the body” while her alleged killer was discovered hiding under a bed. FDNY medics pronounced the victim dead at 5:55 am. Cops found a bloody knife in the apartment and believe it came from Yuna Lee’s own kitchen, NYPD said. Nash allegedly stabbed her 40 times. During Nash’s arraignment on February 14, Monday night, prosecutors said the attack was sexually motivated but they’re continuing to investigate to determine if race also played a role.
