Chrissy Teigen vows not to be 'such an a**hole' after fans slam her for 'tone-deaf' tweet about mom's spending habits
The model had earlier tweeted, blaming her mother, Vilailuck 'Pepper' Teigen, for 'constantly buying new pairs of AirPods because she always loses them'.
After being slammed by fans for tweeting about her mother's spending habits, Chrissy Teigen apologized on social media, vowing "to not be such an a**hole."
In a recent tweet, the 33-year-old mother-of-two blamed her mother, Vilailuck 'Pepper' Teigen, for constantly buying new pairs of AirPods because she always loses them. "My mom treats her air pods like they're disposable. Buys a few a month. she says they would be easier to not lose if they had....a cord," she wrote on Wednesday, November 6.
She later admitted that she did not expect such a strong reaction against her tweet from her followers. One of them criticized her, saying, "Give me about $3,000 Chrissy it's not even that much just do it" while another wrote, "Your family needs higher taxes."
On Thursday, Chrissy opened her Twitter account to find a barrage of angry comments on her tweet.
"Oh man I haven’t checked my mentions for a bit and I didn’t realize how many people were super pissed off about this. It was meant as a joke (and exaggeration) about how my mom doesn’t realize air pods are with a cord are headphones but it came across as super tone-deaf and icky. I promise I will not always say the right thing in the right way but I also promise I hate disappointing or pissing you guys off. I’m sorry and I will do better to not be such an a**hole," she said in a series of tweets.
Chrissy's father Ron Teigen has filed for divorce from Vilailuck, it was recently reported. The pair are currently not living under the same roof as Vilailuck is currently staying with Chrissy and her husband, John Legend, and taking care of their children, Miles and Luna.
Karen Valby, the Vanity Fair reporter, who wrote a cover story for the December issue on Chrissy and John said the divorce had been in the works for a long time.
"@chrissyteigen and her lovely mom talked about the coming split during our @VanityFair time. "Two Christmases!" Chrissy said she told her parents, trying to make a joke. A marriage that was long more of a friendship is coming to an end. Life goes on," she tweeted.
