Family killer Chris Watts hid nude selfies of mistress Nichol Kessinger in phone’s calculator app, reveal cops
Family murderer Chris Watts secretly stored nude selfies and explicit videos of his girlfriend Nichol Kessinger, in a "calculator" app on his phone. The father-of-two hid images sent to him by his mistress in a secret folder on his mobile that appeared to be a calculator app, The Sun reported.
Watts, 35, is serving multiple life sentences at Dodge Correctional Institution in Wisconsin for the brutal murders of his pregnant wife Shanann and two daughters Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3, on August 13, 2018, in Colorado.
Michael Prill, a detective with the Greeley PD in Colorado, analyzed the contents of Watts' phone as part of police evidence compiled in the case. “lt became apparent he was receiving assorted nude images of Kessinger that she was taking by herself and sending to Watts, which he then stashed in that application to prevent Shanann from ever seeing them," Prill told producers of Netflix documentary 'American Murder: The Family Next Door', which covers the bone-chilling murders in detail.
He found that Watts had discussed his marital problems with Shanann in text messages exchanged days before he committed the gruesome murders, even telling her their daughters were the “light of my life”. "These kids mean the world to me and always will," he wrote. "These kiddos are the light of my life and seeing their sweet, incredible smiles and playfulness makes me smile every day.”
In one conversation, Chris sent Shanann a quote from religious leader Isaac Kubvoruno in trying to console her over an argument with his mother. "Husbands: stand up for your wife and protect her from the attacks that come from the people close to you. Let your family and friends know that when it comes to your wife and marriage, there is a line they cannot cross," the quote began.
“lf you have to take sides then always take your wife's side," it continued. "From the day you said 'l do' your wife displaces your parents, friends, and siblings. Apart from God, your wife now occupies and assumes the privileged first place of honor in your life. Oftentimes it requires that you lovingly stand up for your wife in front of your parents, especially our mother. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no (mother, father, brother, sister, friend, or boss) separate."
Meanwhile, investigators also found that Kessinger was looking up Shanann's social media accounts and browsing through wedding dresses online. Denver cops reportedly also found that after killing his wife and kids, Watts googled the lyrics to the song 'Battery' by Metallica.
“Smashing through the boundaries, lunacy has found me, cannot stop the battery," the lyrics read, in part. "Pounding out aggression, turns into obsession, cannot kill the battery, cannot kill the family, battery is found in me.”
Watts pleaded guilty to killing his 34-year-old wife and their two daughters as part of a plea deal to avoid the death penalty. In one of his prison letters, he divulged grisly details of how he killed his pregnant wife and revealed that he had been contemplating the murder for "weeks." "Her eyes filled with blood; as she looked at me and she died. I knew she was gone when she relieved herself," Watts noted in a macabre letter to author Cheryln Cadle, later obtained by the Daily Mail.
