Cristina Cuomo defends using Clorox bath as Covid-19 cure: 'We're all trying to find tools to help beat this'
Journalist Chris Cuomo's wife, Cristina, on Thursday, April 30, defended her use of bleach bath as a potential treatment for COVID-19 after she faced ridicule online. Cristina, a "wellness worshipper", took to her blog 'The Purist' to share homeopathic tips on how she recovered from COVID-19, and recommended bathing in half cup of Clorox bleach twice per week as one of the remedies.
The 50-year-old, while speaking to People magazine, said that she is "feeling well" after recovering from the coronavirus infection. She also hit back at her critics during the interview and said: "There's a huge opposition against holistic medicine, I get that. We are all trying to find tools to help beat this."
"The fact is, there are no standardized treatments for this virus. My hope is to share information and alternatives that many might not have access to and are interested in hearing about," she continued. "Access to healthcare and medicine is not a privilege, it is a human right. Regardless of accessibility, I wanted to give my immune system a fighting chance."
Cristina, in her now-deleted post, had falsely shared that bleach is "technically salt" and claimed that she had used a Clorox and water solution to "combat the radiation and metals in my system." The 50-year-old's advice to her followers was in direct contrast to the warning given by Clorox that the chemical's direct contact with skin should be avoided, the Daily Mail reported.
Christina also wrote in her blog that she boosted her immunity against the virus by taking a $300 vitamin C intravenous drip. The blogger claimed that the advice of the drip was given by Dr. Linda Lancaster, who calls herself an energy medicine and homeopathic physician.
Chris, Cristina, and their 14-year-old son, Mario Cuomo, were all tested positive for COVID-19 last month. Cristina and her husband have since recovered from the infection which has claimed thousands of lives across the world.
Cristina's remedies were slammed on social media, which came just days before President Donald Trump's controversial suggestion of injecting cleaning agents into a COVID-19 infected person's body as a potential treatment for the virus, along with the use of ultraviolet lights.
Cristina's blog post read: "At the direction of my doctor, Dr. Linda Lancaster, who reminded me that this is an oxygen-depleting virus, she suggested I take a bath and add a nominal amount of bleach. Yes, bleach. So, I add a small amount– ½ cup ONLY–of Clorox to a full bath of warm water–why? To combat the radiation and metals in my system and oxygenate it."
The 50-year-old later took to Instagram on Wednesday, April 28, to share a picture of herself enjoying a walk on the beach with the caption: "I am so grateful to be feeling well again." Her post was inundated with comments regarding her controversial bleach bath remedies, with many slamming her for suggesting it.
"There is nothing holistic about using bleach. I'm glad you're well again and I admire your husband, but using bleach in your bath water is seriously unhealthy and publishing this story is irresponsible," one user commented. While another said: "Glad your feeling well. However your misrepresentation of what's natural, is negligent."
Cristina's son has not yet recovered from the virus, and her two daughters have not exhibited any symptoms for COVID-19 yet.
