CNN news anchor Chris Cuomo is getting mixed reviews about his performance after he took over from veteran host Wolf Blitzer, who expertly handled the tense atmosphere of Election Day, as the votes were being counted and most of the state results were called one after the other.

While Cuomo was a hit with the ladies for reasons that had little to do with his election night performance, others criticized his lack of energy or apparent knowledge in overseeing the last leg of an election that is yet to yield a clear winner. Some of the unimpressed viewers took to Twitter and expressed how they thought Cuomo didn't do a good job after taking over the night shift from Blitzer.

"I'm sorry but chris cuomo isn't even good enough to be the night shift anchor," one wrote, while another said, "Well, they are still counting. It's hard to watch CNN. The 2 guys are doing a very bad Abbot & Costello routine. They just don't know it." A third commented, "Chris Cuomo has gone done the route of ‘I’m on the graveyard shift I’m going to play it for laughs when I can’. In his mind he’s ‘energising the viewer’ at nearly 5am ET - unfortunately he sounding like a berk." Someone else remarked, "These two goobers are the entirety of CNN programming right now. #ElectionNight" The next said, "John King's night shift guy has not yet been granted any kind of free reign and so Chris Cuomo is just standing over him and barking questions to his face and it's hilarious #CNNElection"

Then followed the memes.

Some of the female viewers openly admitted that they had stayed awake late into the night only to watch Cuomo take over from Blitzer and host the election coverage. "It’s the cuomo shift!! chris cuomo is sooo foyne" one said, while another gushed, "Oooo Chris Cuomo has the 2 am shift? Just when I thought I wanted to go to bed..." A third commented, "I’m still awake for shift change on @CNN. Why hello, Chris Cuomo. Is this a sign I need to go to sleep? #Election2020

Cuomo also did not hold back when it comes to criticizing the president for prematurely declaring himself a winner and threatening to move to the Supreme Court to stop the count of duly cast votes, despite many of the battleground states not being called for either candidate. He also got a little philophiscal in some of the tweets, calling for the unification of the nation.

"Plenty of animus to go round. And it has us in a bad place. In a pandemic that is gaining. Trump or Biden cant fix alone. It is a strength how people came out. We need to see that energy directed to a shared purpose. Will we?" he tweeted, adding in another, "I said it. we all know it. Trump may well benefit in az and elsewhere when all counting done. Left and right have to get reasonable...fast...the concern is not the stability of the system. It is working. The concern is the reaction. We must be better than this division, right?"

Cuomo implored voters in another tweet: "Ignore the noise. Left and right - be reasonable. We count. Thats a democracy. Nothing changes." And in a separate tweet he wrote, "Point is to make you trust no outcome other than what trump says. President doesnt decide an election. People do. And when we finish, potus may be potus again. But not before. #KeepCounting."
