Chris Cornell's daughter Toni performs stirring rendition of her dad's song, fans have 'no words, just tears'
Chris Cornell's 'Hunger Strike' established him as a force worth reckoning in the music industry. With the third anniversary of the Soundgarden frontman's death just weeks away, his daughter, Toni Cornell, sang an acoustic rendition of the Temple of The Dog song.
"I'm sitting in my dad's studio during this crazy time, and I'm going to sing one of my favorite songs for you guys," Toni, Chris's daughter, said at the beginning of a video tribute. "I love you daddy and I hope I do this some justice." Chris's suicide had left millions of his fans devastated. The singer had struggled with depression before ending his life in 2017.
Toni performed the fan-favorite song in her father's home studio. It was done in support of the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund. In the caption of the video, she posted on her Instagram page, Toni shared that her dad "would have been the first to donate his time and effort" in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak. She proceeded to deliver a very moving version of the song.
Toni later announced that the Chris and Vicky Foundation are donating $50,000 to @MusiCares for its COVID relief efforts, which helps artists who are struggling financially due to the pandemic.
Fans on social media found themselves overwhelmed with Toni's performance. "No words, just tears," tweeted a fan.
"Definitely did it justice!! Beautiful," said another. "Brings tears - beautiful voice," concurred another.
Many thought it fitting that Toni deliver this rendition with ease and poise. "Amazing. I thought no one else could hit that note, but it's you, and your dad. Beautiful," tweeted a fan.
"What a beautiful voice! Without a doubt, your father's talent is in your blood. From where he is looking, he will be happy to see you follow his steps. Thanks for this moment!" added an emotional fan.
Toni has earned herself a whole new following with this tribute. "I JUST WATCHED TONI CORNELL'S PERFORMANCE OF HUNGER STRIKE AND HOLYYYYYYY. SHE HAS TO HAVE ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VOICES I'VE EVER HEARD, I'M SHOCKED," tweeted a fan.
