Trump mocks Greta Thunberg, asks her to work on 'anger management' after TIME's Person of the Year honor: 'Chill Greta, Chill!'
President Donald Trump took a swipe at Swedish Climate Activist Greta Thunberg upon her being named as Time's 2019 Person of the Year.
"So ridiculous. Greta must work on her Anger Management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend! Chill Greta, Chill!" the U.S. leader wrote in response to a congratulatory tweet by actress Roma Downey.
Trump has been critical of the teenage eco-warrior for a while now.
Just hours after Thunberg delivered an impassioned speech to the United Nations Climate Action Summit in September, where she criticized world leaders for not doing enough to address the climate crisis with more urgency, the president appeared to mock her.
Taking to his favorite social media platform, Trump shared a video of Thunberg’s speech and captioned it saying “[s]he seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!”
As we recently reported, Trump's eldest son Donald Trump Jr. also denounced Time magazine on Wednesday for their 2019 Person of the Year pick. The Republican said that the 16-year-old climate crusader was being used as a "marketing gimmick," and slammed the magazine for failing to honor "the Hong Kong Protesters fighting for their lives and freedoms."
Trump Jr, taking a swipe at Thunberg's emotional dialogue from the UN meeting earlier this year, also wrote: "How dare you?" questioning Time's selection this year.
Thunberg, who rose to popularity through her weekly Friday protest outside the Swedish parliament a year ago, became the youngest person to receive the title in Time's 92-year history. She inspired millions of people across the world to take to the streets in an effort to demand an emergency action on climate change from their governments.
The Swedish teen was recognized by the magazine for her fearless efforts of raising global awareness about climate change. She was reportedly chosen from Time's five finalists, which included House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), President Donald Trump, the anonymous whistleblower who lodged an official complaint about Trump's July 25 call to Ukraine President, leading to an impeachment inquiry against the president, and the anti-government protesters in Hong Kong.
