MERSEYSIDE, ENGLAND: Child killer Jon Venables was one of the two ten-year-old boys that were arrested and charged for the murder of two-year-old James Bulger in February 1991. Now nearly three decades after the murder suspect Venables, now 40, is seeking release from prison, despite desperate pleas from slain James Bulger's father to keep the killer jailed.
The 1993's most brutal and senseless murder that sent shockwaves across the nation, after Venables and his co-accused Robert Thompson allegedly kidnapped toddler Bulger after he strayed away from his mother during shopping in Bootle, Merseyside in England. The two 10-year-old suspects reportedly tortured the child and sexually abused him before his body was left on a railway track. Venables and Thompson were both released from prison on license with new identities in 2001. However, Venables was jailed in 2010 and 2017 for hoarding nearly 1,200 child abuse images, including involvement in a drunken brawl and possession of cocaine.

Furthermore, the victim's father Ralph Bulger has appealed to the Home Secretary Dominic Raab to use his powers to prevent the killer's release. "If Venables is walking around as a free man as we mark 30 years of losing our beautiful boy, it would be the ultimate betrayal," Ralph told The Sun. The terrified father added that Justice Secretary Dominic Rabb shall use his power to block the killer's possible release back to society.
"Mr Raab has pledged to crack down on the most dangerous criminals in this country," Ralph added saying, “Venables should be top of that list and never see daylight again.” Ralph alleged the convicted pedophile was a risk to society and children. He added, "I’m bracing for the worst news because I’ve no trust left in the warped system of this country. But Dominic Raab can change that," reported Daily Mail. Deceased Bulger's mother also voiced her concern regarding Venables's release stating he is "still a danger." Nevertheless, Venables is entitled to another parole hearing within two years of his last bid in September 2020, under the current legislation. Venables plea hearing is set to be around “early 2023”.
