'Chicago Fire' Season 9: Will Jesse Spencer exit the show? Fans worried about 'consequences' as Casey is injured
This week's episode of 'Chicago Fire' was mostly paced slow but certain events have us, and many fans, wondering if something big and bad could be headed our way. Unfortunately, since the NBC drama is going on a two-week break, we won't know the answer until the end of March. Recent events on the show, however, have us doubting whether a central character — one that has been on the show since its very first season — could be leaving.
We are talking about none other than Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer), who rose through the ranks to become a Captain at Firehouse 51. He has had many ups and downs and his recent stories all focused on his will-they-won't-they relationship with Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer), who chose to cool things off because she was not sure if Casey would choose her over Gabby Dawson (Monica Raymund), should she return.

Gabby was, of course, the love of Casey's life — until they got a divorce and she went to Puerto Rico to work with rescue teams there. Perhaps Brett's message is pushed home with what happens to Casey this week; we are certainly worried about the future of the character on the show.
In this week's episode of 'Chicago Fire', Casey was involved in a rescue mission where an impaired driver had caused an accident after his passenger had asked him to pull over. When Casey asks the driver to remove his car keys, the driver refuses. When Casey reaches out to grab the keys himself, the driver presses his foot on the accelerator, and the car moves quite some distance at a relatively high speed while Casey yells at him to stop, hanging off from the window of the driver's seat. The car then hits another car, and Casey is thrown off, hitting his head and rolling to a stop.
Casey says he is fine and gets back up, but for the rest of the episode, he experiences dizziness and disorientation. Casey does not seem to get help during the episode and when he does approach Brett, they are called away on another emergency before he can tell her what's wrong. Of course, this bodes bad news for Casey, and next week's synopsis suggests that things are only going to get worse.
Fans were, of course, worried about Casey as they wanted him to get help. One fan tweeted, "Can someone already check on Casey for real? I’m scared #ChicagoFire." Another wrote, "CASEY STOP!! Go see Brett. Go to Med. PLEASE! You are stressing me out. #Brettsey #ChicagoFire #OneChicago." A fan tweeted, "Okay seriously, can someone check on Casey? C’mon, can’t watch him like this #ChicagoFire."

Fans expressed concerns that Casey's injury could lead to something more serious. One fan wrote, "Okay so the episode end without Casey getting any help for his head so that mean ... It will blow in his face later on. Shit, shit, Shit!!! #ChicagoFire." Another opined, "Seriously that Matt Casey spent the whole episode in pain and was not checked and much less went to the doctor? This will have consequences, I'm already seeing #ChicagoFire."

Should Casey end up quitting as a firefighter, we at least hope he is reunited with Gabby. But losing such a popular character could be detrimental for the show and we wonder what the future will hold.
'Chicago Fire' returns with new episodes on NBC on Wednesday, March 31, at 9/8c.
