Coronavirus: Cher says Trump must be 'forced to step down' before he ends up killing thousands of Americans
Cher has launched another one of her tirades against Donald Trump and claimed the president will end up killing thousands of Americans due to his laid-back response to the coronavirus epidemic that has infected 145,000 people worldwide.
"Believe 4 Good Of Country, trump, Pence & administration MUST BE FORCED 2 STEP DOWN, BECAUSE HE WILL END UP KILLING THOUSANDS OF AMERICANS," she tweeted. "HES LIED, & WE ARE NOT PREPARED/PROTECTED. WE ARE ON SAME TRAJECTORY AS ITALY.‼️HE PUT NO ONE IN CHARGE TILL IT WAS TOO LATE. HE’LL SUCK HIS thumb."
After initially insisting that the coronavirus outbreak was not serious and comparing it to the seasonal flu, Trump announced earlier this week that he would be suspending all travel between the US and Europe, with the exception of the UK, for 30 days.
"We made a lifesaving move with early action on China," he said during what was only Trump's second Oval Office address as president. "Now we must take the same action with Europe."
He had also insisted that this was not a "financial crisis" and was "just a temporary moment of time that we will overcome together as a nation and as a world."
Cher's recent rant was not the first time she criticized Trump for his administration's handling of the epidemic, and had previously suggested the president refused to take action because he was scared of its impact on the stock market.
"trump Did Nothing 2Prepare Americans For VIRUS," she tweeted. Whatever Happens 2 Americans, Needs 2 Be LAID AT trump’s DOORSTEP!! HE KNEW IN TIME 2PREPARE Americans, BUT DIDNT WANT 2 SPOOK STOCK MARKET!! CDC TOLD HIM” SENIORS SHOULD NOT travel,” HE Told Them 2. He Will Be Judged By a Higher Power. MONEY VS AMERICAN LIVES"
In a widely expected move, Trump declared the coronavirus pandemic a national emergency in order to free up more money and resources but continued to deny any responsibility for delays in making tests available for the virus. As much as $50 billion will be freed for state and local governments to respond to the outbreak.
Trump also announced a range of executive actions to bolster energy markets, ease the financial burden for Americans with student loans and give medical professionals additional “flexibility” in treating patients during the public health crisis.
"Through a very collective action and shared sacrifice, national determination, we will overcome the threat of the virus," Trump said.
The US is one of the worst-affected countries in the COVID-19 outbreak, with 2,174 confirmed cases and 47 deaths so far.
