INDOOROOPHILLY, BRISBANE: After allegations that a female teacher had groomed a teenage boy and performed an "indecent deed," the school sent a letter to worried parents. Chelsea Jane Edwards, 28, of Paradise Point, southeast of Brisbane, was charged on March 10 while working at Indooroopilly State School with two counts of grooming and one count of indecently assaulting a minor under the age of 16.

The teacher allegedly met the teenager through an Indooroophilly educational facility and started grooming him in July 2022, when they connected socially outside of the classroom. To respond to the "allegations of a serious nature," Executive Principal Michael Hornby wrote a letter on Tuesday.

"Our students, as our highest priority at all times"

In the letter, Mr. Hornby informed the school's community that they would be there for them during the struggle. He wrote, "First and foremost, I want to reassure you that we treat the safety and welfare of our children, our students, as our highest priority at all times," as reported by DailyMail.

The letter further reads, "While I appreciate your desire to understand the specifics of this matter, I am sure you would understand that I am unable to go into any details for legal reasons. In that respect I ask you to consider refraining from providing commentary about the issue on social media or other forums." The letter, at last, mentions, "Support services are available for anyone who may require assistance. Thank you for your continuing support of our school," as per reports.

In response to a complaint, the teacher's activities were reported to the state's Child Protection and Investigative Unit in February. On May 2, she will make another appearance at the Southport Magistrates Court. As far as is known, the instructor has been absent since the allegations were announced on March 10. Indooroopilly State School, with about 2500 students, is one of Queensland's most prominent public institutions. The Education Department said it knew the lady had been charged and stated that the allegations were "serious and upsetting for all involved," as per reports.

Families claimed they had not been informed about the alleged incident

A spokeswoman said, “We have been providing extensive wraparound support to the school community in question and we will continue to do so.”While the department claimed the school community had been officially informed, other families claimed they had not been informed about the alleged incident and had just learned about it online, as reported by SydenyNewsHQ.
