A married man recently diagnosed with the coronavirus is reportedly worried he became infected during a secret trip to Italy he took with his mistress. According to a report by The Sun, his wife is now in self-isolation and completely unaware of how her husband caught the deadly bug.

The unnamed patient -- who is reportedly in his late 30s and described as "well-heeled and with a high-flying job" -- confessed to public health coordinators in England about his secret break overseas.

He revealed he told his wife he was away on a business trip in the UK itself, and that she has no inkling he visited Italy with his girlfriend. Upon returning from vacation, the man visited a hospital with coronavirus symptoms. Subsequent tests confirmed he had COVID-19.

He told doctors that he couldn't name his lover, but confirmed that the affair was with a woman. Following the diagnosis, his wife has now isolated herself in their lavish residence in the north of England.

"This patient is the talk of public health officials," a source told The Sun. "His case would be funny if it wasn't quite so serious."

"The man confessed what he'd been up to in Italy, and that his wife has no idea," the source continued.  "She thinks he just picked up the disease on his business trip away. Although the patient admitted to medics what had happened, he said nothing would persuade him to name his mistress."

According to the unnamed source, the man is expected to survive despite the infection -- "unlike his extra-marital relationship."

“He thought he had the perfect alibi to carry out his affair, but hadn’t reckoned on the coronavirus meltdown,” the insider told the outlet. “The patient is just relieved he got home before flights were canceled — that would have taken some explaining. He’s in a blind panic, but more about his adultery being exposed rather than his health.”

At the moment, Italy is the hardest hit European country in terms of the coronavirus outbreak. The death toll has crossed 2,500 with at least 31,500 confirmed cases. Italian authorities have currently placed the country in lockdown and have advised against all but essential travel. The UK has more than 2500 cases, with 71 deaths reported.
