Megastar Meryl Streep's nephew, Charles Harrison Streep, 31, has been arrested with charges in a road rage attack. Charles was charged with felony counts of second-degree assault and second-degree strangulation. He was arraigned and released on $5,000 bail as reported by the Daily Mail on August 27. The Academy Award winner's relative was allegedly involved in the incident that took place in East Hampton, New York, a week earlier on August 23 that left an 18-year-old driver with serious head trauma requiring emergency surgery, The Independent reported.
It isn’t clear what sparked a confrontation between the two men, but authorities received 911 calls about a possible fight as reported by Daily News. When police arrived, Streep was gone and the victim, who was reportedly driving a Ford sedan at the time of the assault, refused for medical attention. After the incident, no ambulance was called to the scene, though an emergency medical service provider, who had been in the area, was on scene, The Independent quoted a police officer as saying. The site further reported that once the victim was home, he requested medical assistance and was transported to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital.
