LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kate Hudson is proving that she is not only a great actor but also a generous person. The Hollywood superstar recently made a generous contribution to her future mother-in-law, Melissa Linehan, by gifting her a renovation of her backyard. Kate, who is engaged to Melissa’s son, Danny Fujikawa, surprised the mother-of-three with a major home makeover.

For the daunting task actress enlisted the help of the ‘Property Brothers’ stars, Drew Scott and Jonathan Scott, for the renovation. For the ‘Bride Wars’ star, Melissa is an old friend whom she has wanted to thank for a long time. Kate and Melissa’s history goes back 20 years, when the former educator used to teach the actress’ son in school. Now Kate is engaged to Melissa’s son Danny, which makes their relationship even more special. So it was only natural that the ‘How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days’ star wanted to express her gratitude toward the matriarch.

Kate decided that teaming up with the Scott twins to gift Melissa a backyard makeover would be a wonderful way to help the retired educator, especially after Melissa hurt her legs and injured both her ankles. The injury rendered her unable to move efficiently for a while. Melissa required a more functional backyard to garden and spend time with her grandchildren. For Kate’s future mother-in-law, gardening is a much-loved hobby that she enjoys engaging in with her grandchildren, including Kate and Danny’s daughter, Rani Rose.

Together with Jonathan and Drew, Kate planned the execution of her vision for Melissa’s backyard, which was based on her mother-in-law’s favorite destination, the south of France. Kate planned out the color schemes, discussed fabric layering, overlooked gardening, and definitely partook in breaking down the old, decaying structures of Melissa’s yard. The trio even ripped apart the back porch and garden in favor of a newer, modern version. In the course of 6 weeks, they created a low-maintenance retreat complete with an outdoor kitchen and fireplace, an updated shed that serves as an art space for Melissa and her grandchildren, and even a bocce ball court. What was special about this renovation was that Kate’s daughter Rani also joined them with the gardening to help with her “grandma MuuMuu’s” renovation.

Ultimately, the updated space swayed Melissa, and she loved Kate’s touches of lavender and south-of-France aesthetics. She was incredibly touched as her sons and grandchildren joined the group for a round of bocce ball in her new south of France-inspired backyard.
