'Castle Rock' Season 2: Lizzy Caplan has proven she is a star, be it as Janice Ian in 'Mean Girls' or Annie Wilkes in the Stephen King horror
"What's your hair made of?"
"Your mom’s chest hair!"
For fans of the high-school comedy 'Mean Girls', that's an iconic quote by Goth girl Janice Ian, played by Lizzy Caplan.
Who can forget Janice? The snarky teenager, who was determined to expose The Plastics ( a gang of snobby girls) by any means possible, is still a favorite among many.
We couldn't help but love the sarcastic teenager who didn't hold back from expressing her opinions, regardless of whether they hurt anyone else or not.
Lizzy has done several roles in shows like 'Freaks and Geeks', 'New Girl', 'Smallville' and 'True Blood'. Despite them being small roles, Lizzy made sure that people knew that she was here to stay.
In fact, even in the comedy 'New Girl', Lizzy managed to score a few laughs for her role as Julia, Nick's strong-headed girlfriend who could give it back to predators when needed.
In 2013, Lizzy shone in the show 'Masters Of Sex', along with Michael Sheen. The show was a curious one, and it explored the research and the relationship between William Masters (Sheen) and Virginia Johnson (Lizzy), who were two researchers of human sexuality at Washington University.
The show received much critical acclaim and featured sharp and nuanced performances from Lizzie.
And then, along came 'Castle Rock' in 2019, which was Lizzy's stage to shine as a terrified, paranoid mother, who could devolve into the psychotic nurse Annie Wilkes from Stephen King's novel 'Misery'.
With her constant shuffling, point-blank stares, and twitching, Lizzy has proven that she is here to stay.
Acting in a horror genre isn't an easy task, especially a show with elements from the Stephen King universe. Lizzy's frightened yet fierce countenance when It comes to protecting her daughter can give gooseflesh.
The role of Annie Wilkes had earlier been essayed by Kathy Bates in the 1990 film 'Misery' for which she won an award. It was a daunting and challenging role, but Lizzy proved her worth, be it when she is sneaking away medicines or plunging a knife down a man's throat.
From Janice Ian to Annie Wilkes, that's quite a journey as an actor and we can only commend Lizzy for her repertoire of roles.
