'Castle Rock' Season 2 Episode 7 gave much-required closure about origins of evil Kid from Season 1

Season 2 of 'Castle Rock' answered several questions from the first season of 'Castle Rock'.

When season 2 of 'Castle Rock' aired, it seemed as if there was virtually no connection with the first season, save for scant references here and there. While the first season dealt with lawyer Henry Deaver and the mysterious 'kid' (Bill Skarsgard) in Stephen King settings, Season 2 used the author's iconic characters and themes from different novels and short stories and weaved together a seamless storyline, wracked with emotional family drama and horror.

At the end of Season 1, we saw the Kid being held at gunpoint by Deaver. In his face, he sees a horrifying glimpse of a demon, and he realizes that the Kid belongs in the cage in the infamous Block F of Shawshank Prison, where he cannot harm the people of Castle Rock. And that's that.

In Season 2, however, apart from a few Easter eggs, like Dale Lacey's letters being in Ace Merrill's room, there was no link between the two seasons. However, the previous episode became the bridge between the two seasons.

In the latest episode of the show, titled 'The Word', the body-snatchers emerge from the shadows on the center-stage of 'Castle Rock's 400th anniversary parade, including the 'Kid', who Ace had freed. This episode answered a lot of questions about the burning mysteries of season 1 that never gave fans any closure about the exact predicament of the Kid. There was much speculation whether the Kid was pure evil who induced madness in others, or was just from another timeline.

Fans are right on both counts, the sinister Kid had bewitched the Castle Rock founders 400 years ago, starting with the prophet Amity Lambert (Mathilde Dehaye) and her lover, pastor Augustin (David Alpay). He got them to kill themselves after swallowing beetles with the promise that they would be resurrected 400 years ago.

Augustine, who is in Ace Merrill's body, wants Annie Wilkes (Lizzy Caplan) for the resurrection of Amity, as she had been the one to 'release them'. And so, the show unites Castle Rock's history, with Annie Wilke's story, and connects it to the previous season's unanswered questions.

'Castle Rock' airs on Hulu, Wednesdays at 12 am ET.
