Carol Channing, legendary Broadway star from 'Hello Dolly!', dies at 97

After her stellar role in 'Hello Dolly', Channing won a Tony Award in 1964 for Best Actress in a Musical. She also appeared in several movies.

Legendary Broadway actress Carol Channing who played the iconic role of Dolly Levi in 'Hello Dolly!', one of the most enduring musical theatre hits of all time, has breathed her last breath at the age of 97 on Tuesday, January 15. The news of Channing's sad demise was revealed in a statement by her publicist. The 97-year-old star died in her home situated in Rancho Mirage, California, on Tuesday early morning. 

"It is with extreme heartache, that I have to announce the passing of an original Industry Pioneer, Legend and Icon — Miss Carol Channing. I admired her before I met her, and have loved her since the day she stepped ... or fell rather ... into my life," B Harlan Boll, her publicist, told Broadway World.
