'Bodak Yellow' Cardi B posts family pics after Twitter users compare her to 'Yellow Bone' DaniLeigh
After the DaniLeigh controversy erupted over her song 'Yellow Bone', the singer-rapper had to lock her social media accounts after Twitter was flooded with accusations against her for 'black fishing' and glorifying 'colorism'.
Some tweets started comparing Cardi B with DaniLeigh saying the 'WAP' singer was also profiting off Blackness. "The Cardi B, DaniLeigh's of the world KNOW they not black, they know y'all hate yourselves they know y'all hate black women and will do anything to exclude actual black women to put non black women like them as the main representations of black women to feel good about yourselves," said one tweet, while another said "People gettin onto dani leigh... but her skin rah looks yellow... and I’m sure her parents are dominican republic. Shes as black as Cardi B basically..."

Cardi B has faced this accusation before and even posted an Instagram live video in 2019 to talk about her ethnicity in which she said: "It’s like, ‘Cardi’s Latin, she’s not Black.’ And it’s like, bro, my features don’t come from…White people f—ng, okay?’ And they always wanna race-bait when it comes to me…I have Afro features. ‘Oh, but your parents are light-skinned…all right, but my grandparents aren’t." Cardi B has spoken to Zendaya too about her Caribbean heritage and refers to herself as "afro-Latin".
Cardi B took to Twitter to stop the chatter comparing her to DaniLeigh, starting with an exasperated tweet that said: "Let me do this shit again". The Tweet thread continued with Cardi B posting several pictures from her family albums archives, naming her relatives from her grandmother, to her aunts and "mom brother" aka her uncle.

She then seemed to want to put a rest to speculation embedding an Instagram post by her high school friend in which she said that Cardi B referred to herself as "afro-latina" in school as well. She added a caption to the tweet saying: "Since high school, I was very aware of who I was. Nothing new. Learn my countries history before ya type on this app".

Twitter users wondered if she was trying to 'prove' her Blackness. One tweet replying to Cardi B's picture post said: "yeah, because she has to prove every day that she's a black latina", while another said: "Cardi B like 'Ya’ll not bouta put me in the same boat with Danileigh. I’m black fr. See.' lmao"

Another called out the perceived hypocrisy of going after DaniLeigh's 'Yellow Bone' while lapping up Cardi B's 'Bodak Yellow', posting a video where Cardi B references her lighter skin color as inspiration for her song's title. "Bodak Yellow by @iamcardib was a colorist song and y’all ate it up and loved it. So enjoy @DaniLeigh colorist anthem as well. Keep the same energy! Here is a clip of Cardi admitting her song was about her being a YELLOW BONE. #pressplay", said the tweet. Another said: "It's evident in the music & statements made by artists like Cardi B, Dani Leigh, Latta. They know they are favored bcuz of their light skin. They say the quiet part out loud. Colorism made us hate ourselves; to the degree that a lot of Men can't see beauty in a dark skinned BLK WMN".

One user said that Cardi B just wanted some of the attention DaniLeigh was getting for 'Yellow Bone' saying: "Cardi b seen the hate dani Leigh was getting and didn’t like that and was like me tooooo I want attention", while another said, "Cardi b said yall ain’t bout ta Dani Leigh my ass." A tweet repeated the same sentiment saying: "Cardi B continuously showing off her family so they won’t Danileigh her".
