Why did Hasbro scrap Cara Dune action figures? Gina Carano's ouster from 'The Mandalorian' sparks backlash
Gina Carano may have a new project in her hands – a film with the conservative news website The Daily Wire – but the aftershocks of her public denouncement and firing from ‘The Mandalorian’ continue. American multinational conglomerate Hasbro that is famous for manufacturing board games and action figures has reportedly scrapped plans to make more Cara Dune figures – the character played by Carano – after she was fired over abhorrent social media behavior.
A retailer BigBadToyStore told The Hollywood Reporter on Monday, February 15 that they were forced to cancel pre-orders for Cara Dune items because no more would be made. "The Star Wars Black Cara Dune figure was released in 2020 and sold out not long after the inventory was received," a spokeswoman for BigBadToyStore said. "Hasbro planned for another production run and we were accepting pre-orders from that production run. Due to recent events, Hasbro was no longer approved to produce any more of this figure."

On Tuesday, February 16, Hasbro SVP Global Communications Julie Duffy said in a statement to Deadline, “We’re thrilled to have the privilege of creating products featuring characters and stories from ‘The Mandalorian’ for our fans. Hasbro has completed development of all Season 1 and 2 products featuring Cara Dune, and there are no current plans to create more. We are actively working with our retail partners to address existing orders.”
The Deadline report, however, said that as per some insiders, there wasn’t a lot of ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2 action figures at all since the series isn’t coming back for a while. A spinoff ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ will be dropping this fall instead. Either way, no more new Cara Dune toys.
Last Friday, February 12, Carano announced a new project that she has signed on to since her firing from the Disney+ show. Carano said, “The Daily Wire is helping make one of my dreams – to develop and produce my own film – come true. I cried out and my prayer was answered."
She added, "I am sending out a direct message of hope to everyone living in fear of cancellation by the totalitarian mob. I have only just begun using my voice which is now freer than ever before, and I hope it inspires others to do the same. They can’t cancel us if we don’t let them.”
Carano’s firing came in the wake of her social media posts and behavior. She had compared “hating someone for their political views” to the persecution of Jews during the Holocaust in an Instagram post.
“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors... even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views,” she had said.
Last year, she added “beep/bop/boop” to her Twitter bio, which many saw as a mockery of people who list their pronouns. She reportedly denied that accusation and said she was responding to people who asked her to list her pronouns, “exposing the bullying mentality of the mob that has taken over the voices of many genuine causes.” As per reports, she has also mocked the use of masks and the need for vaccines during the coronavirus pandemic and supported baseless claims of voter fraud after the 2020 presidential election.
