We knew this was coming, we just weren't prepared. During an appearance on 'The Graham Norton Show', Chris Evans revealed that he believes that his time as Captain America has come to an end. The actor, who cemented a place in fans' hearts with his portrayal of the stoic Steve Rogers in several Marvel films, told Norton that it would be too risky to return to the role after ending it on such a high in 'Avengers Endgame'. In the final film of Phase 3, Captain America returns the stones to their respective timelines and lives out the remainder of his life with Peggy. He gives his shield to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie).

"It was a great run and we went out on such a high note that it would be risky to revisit it in my opinion. It was such a good experience and I think it's better left that way," he said.

"It’s not a hard no, but it’s not an eager yes either,” he continued. “There are other things that I’m working on right now. I think Cap had such a tricky act to stick the landing, and I think they did a really nice job letting him complete his journey. If you’re going to revisit it, it can’t be a cash grab. It can’t be just because the audience wants to be excited. What are we revealing? What are we adding to the story? A lot of things would have to come together. It doesn’t feel, at this time, that would be a thing.”

He did not want to ruin the ending of 'Endgame' either. "It’d be a shame to sour that,” he said about Steve’s ending. “I’m very protective of it. It was such a precious time, and jumping onto the movie was a terrifying prospect to me. I said no a bunch of times, and there’s a million and one ways it could have gone wrong. It almost feels like maybe we should let this one sit.”

Evans had acted in 'Captain America: The First Avenger', 'Captain America: Winter Soldier', 'Captain America: Civil War', 'The Avengers', 'Avengers: Age Of Ultron', 'Avengers: Infinity War' and 'Avengers: Endgame'. It seems practically impossible to imagine a Marvel Cinematic Universe without Evans's Captain America, as we spent a decade watching these films. Along with Downey Jr, he made the MCU what it is, and was one of the reasons why the fanbase grew by leaps and bounds.

Evans had once played Johnny Storm in 'Fantastic Four' too, which was something most of us choose to forget. Could we hope for him to return to the MCU as another character? That will be a risky game, as ardent fans will never be able to accept him in any other avatar apart from Captain America, considering that he shot to such astronomical fame with the character. Well, never say never. For our sake, we deserve at least one cameo in 'The Falcon And The Winter Soldier'.
