Candace Owens tore into Michelle Obama over a video the latter released calling President Donald Trump 'racist'. She alleged the former first lady of finally having her own "basket of deplorables" moment, just like 2016 presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton. The former first lady issued a strongly-worded statement on YouTube on Tuesday, October 6, urging voters to choose Joe Biden for president because the incumbent "isn't up to the job."

The controversial clip wasn't taken too kindly by supporters of the president, and elicited a barrage of attacks from several cultural figures including conservative firebrand Owens. "Michelle Obama had her 'basket of deplorables' moment today. This will motivate people to vote for @realDonaldTrump like never before," Owens tweeted. "It's incredible to me that not a single person at the DNC can recognize that they are making all the same mistakes they made in 2016."

Owens was referring to Hillary Clinton's comment during a fundraising event 2016, where she said one could place half of Trump supporters into a "basket of deplorables" because they were "racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic."

Michelle Obama, in her impassioned statement, also touched upon the nationwide civil unrest since George Floyd's police custody death on Memorial Day. "It’s frustrating to hear some folks say that you’ve been the beneficiary of privilege, that the color of your skin gives you a head start," she said. "That’s the reality for far too many hard-working, decent Americans. The president and his allies are trying to tap into that frustration and distract from his breathtaking failures by giving folks someone to blame other than them."

Obama also claimed that most Black Lives Matter demonstrations were "peaceful" and went on to accuse the Trump administration of "stoking fears about Black and Brown Americans." "So what the president is doing is, once again, patently false. It’s morally wrong and yes, it is racist but that doesn’t mean it won’t work," the Democrat continued. "[People] don’t have time to fact-check falsehoods being spread throughout the internet. And even reasonable people might get scared. And the one thing this president is really, really good at is using fear and confusion and spreading lies to win."

Obama cited her own experience as a Black woman in the United States and urged viewers to "search your hearts, and your conscience, and then vote for Joe Biden like your lives depend on it. We have all been working so hard to keep ourselves and our families afloat — and we deserve a president who will do the same," she concluded.

Pro-Trump Twitterati, however, fervently agreed with Owens and bashed the former first lady. "Michelle Obama: @realDonaldTrump is racist for denouncing a hate group who burns down communities, terrorizes diners and pulls people out of their cars. Hey @MichelleObama, let me introduce you to what a real racist looks like...you just might know him," one user wrote, sharing alongside a controversial quote by Biden. "Michelle Obama is one of the very worst prospects to be a role model for young Black women. She pushes consummate victim narrative, resorts to knowingly lying to stoke race-baiting & deception. If I had a Black daughter I would sit her down & say, 'never, ever be like this woman'," pro-Trump activist Brandon Straka added.

"I agree w @RealCandaceO Owens on this. #MichelleObama’s theatrical video was completely the opposite of what Barack said in '08. He knew that was good & it was not racist which is why he responded as he did when he was asked if America was ready for him. #vote #Election2020," another wrote. "'Surveying the landscape and seeing Cardi B, Michelle Obama, Candace Owens, and Kim Klacik. I would sit them down and ask 'who is proud of this country, confident, intellectual, caring, open to everyone and wants to unite instead of divide' They'd say hi Candace and Kim," a user added. "I lost all respect for @MichelleObama today! Unbelievable. definitely not who I thought she was and I had her on a very high pedestal and thought of her as a role model but she is definitely showing her true colors. Whatever happened to when they go low we go high bs?" another user chimed in.
