WILMINGTON, DELAWARE: Two women, Camryn Amy and Olivia Winslow have been charged with hate crimes after they confronted a seven-year-old boy and his Trump-supporting mother outside the Democratic National Convention in Delaware last month.

The child was wearing a 'Make America Great Again' hat, which the two women stole. They also ripped up Trump signs, officials have revealed. The two women who are both 21 years old have had their charges upgraded to hate crimes, the Department of Justice revealed on Tuesday, September 8.

The indictment had accused Amy and Winslow of committing their crimes "for the purpose of interfering with the victim's free exercise or enjoyment of any right, privilege or immunity protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, or committed said crime because the victim had exercised or enjoyed said right or rights."

A video of the incident was shared on Twitter, August 21, which has been viewed 5.4 million times thus far.

Attorney-General Kathy Jennings said, "Violence in any form is unacceptable, but harming another person — let alone a child — because of the expression of their views betrays the principles on which our country was founded."

"Free speech, free assembly, and free expression are sacred, no matter whether we agree with the opinions expressed, and especially when we don’t. That is as true today as it was when the Bill of Rights was ratified. Our Division of Civil Rights and Public Trust will continue to defend everyone's fundamental rights," Jennings added.

The viral video showed the two tearing up signs and then proceeding to pick a fight with some adults standing nearby. The two then approached the child and picked up a hat lying on the ground as the child says, "That’s somebody else’s hat." The two women start walking away as the mother and son follow them demanding them to return the hat with the mother saying, "Get your hat back, baby" as the child can be heard crying in the background. The Wilmington Police arrested both the women who were charged with robbery, conspiracy, and endangering the welfare of a child. Amy has also been charged with offensive touching.

The two women have been slammed for their behavior by social media users. One user wrote, "These people are immature adults, literally TRIGGERED by a red hat. Worse, they have unknowingly been brainwashed by the MSM to think they are doing the right thing w/ the moral high ground, when it fact they are acting like idiots & breaking laws while doing it."

Another Twitter user commented, "We as a country need to see zero tolerance for supression of political speech and zero tolerance for directing that intolerance towards a child. No plea if it affect them the rest of their life that they have no one to blame but themselves." Yet another added, "I completely agree though I would, in a prosecutorial role, push for a higher charge than simple 'endangering of a child.' Delaware is being very lenient here for not going ahead with charges for ;assaulting a minor.' Could be they want it to stick and leave no room for a plea."

"The entire issue with dehumanizing a political opponent, they cease to be children to some people & become "The Other". Unfortunately, the ideologies of both parties leave few places for any common agreement to occur & not be labeled a traitor. Coronavirus isolation worsens it," said another user.
