Who all sustained injuries in the crash?
Officials stated that the incident resulted in the death of one female adult, and three of the 10 injured were children. One 3-year-old child had to be airlifted to a medical facility. The state of the driver or the other injured parties was not disclosed.
Locals were alarmed by the crash that took place in a commercial area with a 25 mph zone. Judy Fann, a local resident, stated, "I am totally in shock. Nothing has ever happened here in Woodland like this," according to CBS.
'They do not see their actions have consequences'
Reporters on the scene were informed by Woodland Police Sgt Victoria Danzl that the young suspect had stolen the Honda Pilot he was driving from a family member. Danzl stated, "Unfortunately, kids are young, and they do not see their actions have consequences. Unfortunately, today this was pretty significant," according to CBS.
Danzl stated that the officer's pursuit was brief and that when police initially attempted to stop the teen, they did not anticipate him to bolt. The suspect was arrested at the scene of the crash and transferred to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. Police stated that the child could be charged with vehicular manslaughter.
'They need to show everyone that behavior is unacceptable'
Many have reacted to the tragic incident on Twitter with one person writing, "Parents should be guilty of murder." Another user wrote, "The kid knew what he was doing was wrong, that's why he sped off. Charge him as an adult... vehicular manslaughter. They need to show everyone that behavior is unacceptable."
A third individual posted, "If he toom a gun and killed someone they would charge him but because its a car, to them its ok. I believe he should be held responsible. A car is deadly weapon if not used properly, just like a gun." One user wrote, "They should have laws about underage drivers in California."
A comment read, "Lock up the parents," while another read, "Probably out for a joy ride that went terribly wrong. Now, at 13, he has killed someone and has to accept that and live with it every day. A shame for him and tragic for the woman. Very sad."
