SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA: A California school psychologist has been arrested and charged for allegedly having an illegal sexual relationship with one of the students at her school.

Kristen Lynn Boyle, 35, of Lake Forest, a psychologist with the Fullerton Unified School District, was charged with statutory rape and is accused of having sex with a minor in a La Habra High School classroom in April 2018, according to a joint press release by the Orange County District Attorney and the La Habra Police Department.

Boyle was arrested on September 20 by the La Habra police following a lengthy investigation into a report that she had an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student on the school's campus in April 2018. After the allegations had emerged, she had been placed on administrative leave from her duties, and had remained away from the school since.

"Mental health professionals wield a tremendous amount of influence over their patients," said Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer in the statement. "This betrayal of trust is even more egregious because she used her position to gain her victim’s trust and then exploited the therapist/patient relationship to prey on one of the very students she was entrusted with helping."

Deputy District Attorney Sarah Rahman is prosecuting the case. If convicted of statutory rape, a felony, Boyle could face a maximum of three years behind bars.

Fullerton Joint Union Officials have declined to comment on the case.

Police said that their lengthy investigation did not uncover any additional victims at this time, but have asked anyone with information on the case to contact the La Habra Police Department at (562) 383-4300, or to utilize Tip411, a web-based and smartphone application which allows community members to submit anonymous tips. Citizens can also submit a tip anonymously at www.tip411.com
