'Bulletproof: South Africa' Review: High-octane buddy cop saga is a thorough punchy, popcorn adventure
‘Bulletproof: South Africa’ might just only be a three-part series, but it is not low on the action. The entire season is filled with thrilling sequences, violent chases and shootouts that will keep you at the edge of your seats. Ronnie Pike (Ashley Walters) and Aaron Bishop (Noel Clarke) were having a good time in Cape Town when a young girl, Kayla (Katherine Neethling), was abducted in broad daylight.
The best-buddy cops get together for another adventure and find themselves immersed in the criminal world of South Africa. By the third and final episode, it looks like the case has already been solved and now they can enjoy their vacation without any stress. But that would be boring, right?

A few minutes into the third episode and Kayla is rescued by the police. Dewald (Paul du Toit) takes all the credit for solving the case. Kayla, who is clearly traumatized by everything that has happened with her, is finally reunited with her family. Bishop feels that Dewald was responsible for the girl’s kidnapping and tells Pike about it. But there is no evidence against him.
‘Bulletproof’ is not your typical police procedural show that would go below the surface and give you answers to every little problem that a human endures, though it handles a domestic abuse storyline with sensitivity. The three-part series is not flawless, but it drags you along for the ride. The chemistry and bromance between Walters and Clarke are great. They tease others relentlessly, but always have each other’s backs. Once again, it is their chemistry that takes the show to a whole new level.
People who love action are also in for a surprise because the three-part series is packed with action sequences. The massive car chase through the South African countryside will surely blow your mind and you would want to see that again on the biggest screen possible. ‘Bulletproof: South Africa’ might not be the best series out there, but it is undoubtedly one of the shows that will keep you hooked to your TV screens for its entirety. With cinema halls closed, this is the kind of punchy, popcorn adventure people need to fill the gap nicely.
The show has already been commissioned for Season 4 by Sky because of the good ratings. The network also indicated that the upcoming season will see Pike and Bishop take down the most untouchable villain they have ever faced.
