'Bull' Season 5 Episode 2: Will Chunk take over if Benny decides to become New York's next DA?
Spoilers for 'Bull' Season 5 Episode 2: 'The Great Divide'
This just might be the start of a new beginning to 'Bull'. If the last scene of the show is anything to go by, it does look like Benny (Freddy Rodriguez) will take the opportunity and consider the offer of becoming the next District Attorney of New York. This would mean a major change on 'Bull' as the show has always seen Jason Bull (Michael Weatherly) and Benny be the successful tag team duo winning every case that comes their way.
The big question is if Chunk Palmer (Christopher Jackson) will take Benny's place as TAC's lawyer. While the newly-graduated Palmer brings in freshness and a ton of excitement, replacing Benny will be a hard task and a major paradigm shift for the TAC team. From what we have seen of Palmer so far, and this episode, in particular, his heart is in the right place. He wants to do good and he wants to be good at what he does. There can be parallels drawn to Benny here, but it all boils down to what Rodriguez's character does next.
In a way, 'The Great Divide' is pretty much an answer to the question. By pitting Benny against Chunk, the episode all but confirmed the latter was still rough around the edges, but with Bull's support, could do justice to the void Benny would leave if he goes on to become the DA. This makes 'Bull' Season 5 a lot more interesting and also a gamble. So far, fans of the show have always praised the chemistry between Bull and Benny and this might be a sore absence if he indeed becomes DA.
There's no disrespect here to Palmer as well. He's been part of TAC for some time now and that works in his favor. The team knows him and so does Bull. With a 16-episode season, 'Bull' is shaking things up in the fifth installment and we can't wait to see what's in store for the audience and 'Bull' faithful.
Do you think Palmer could take Benny's place in TAC? 'Bull' Season 5 airs Mondays at 10 pm ET on CBS.
