'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Season 7 Episode 2 sees new captain arrive at precinct, Jake and Holt suspect her motives

While the squad was planning about how to get rid of the new captain (in case they turned out to be horrible), Boyle decided to reinvent his image to that of a bad**s, even topping it off with Rosa’s (Stephanie Beatriz) old leather jacket

Episode 1 of ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Season 7 saw a lot happen. There was a lot of tussle between Jake (Andy Samberg) and Holt (Andre Braugher) now that their roles had reversed. Madeline Wuntch (Kyra Sedgwick), the temporary Commissioner of the NYPD, had demoted Holt to a beat cop, making Jake the superior during an attempted-assassination investigation. On the other side, Jake and Amy (Melissa Fumero), now a married couple, decided they would start trying to get pregnant.

The fireworks start to the seventh season continued in episode 2, ‘Captain Kim’. The episode began with the squad minus Holt on a mission; Holt was stationed outside dealing with a pigeon -- the only thing he was authorized to do now that he had been demoted. The idea of a new captain arriving to lead the precinct was clearly messing with Holt's head.

While the squad was planning about how to get rid of the new captain (in case they turned out to be horrible), Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) decided to reinvent his image to that of a bad**s, even topping it off with Rosa’s (Stephanie Beatriz) old leather jacket! And that too led to a weird topsy-turvy dynamic between Jake and Boyle.

But in came the new captain, Julie Kim (Nicole Bilderback) and things got weird. While Holt and Jake tried really hard to hate her, she seemed to be genuinely nice. She was interested in knowing about Terry’s (Terry Crews) kids, had the same love for organizing as Amy, acknowledged Boyle as the resident bad**s, and even offered Jake his dream job -- in the FBI. She also informed them she would not be staying at the precinct for too long. Obviously, Holt was not happy.

When Kim invited the team to a party at her place, Jake and Holt decided to snoop and find out what she wanted, and if she was really a mole planted by Wuntch. True to form, Amy attempted to stop them at every step.

When Jake and Holt realized there was a locked room in the house, they distracted Kim to steal the keys. Inside, however, was no secret. Just a large dog that sort of ruined the party by attacking everything. And then the truth finally came out.

Not about Kim being bad. Because she wasn’t. But about why she wanted to work at the Nine-Nine. It was because she respected Holt a lot. Ultimately, however, seeing how much baggage there was in the precinct regarding Holt, she quit. And Boyle became uncool again in a moment of altruism when he gave away Rosa’s jacket. So, everything went back to normal. Or as normal as it could ever be at the Nine-Nine.

Season 7 of ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ airs Thursdays on NBC at 8/7c.
