Britney Spears' conservatorship situation is more draconic than people thought if her makeup artist Maxi is to be believed. In the most recent episode of the 'Calababes Podcast', released on October 22, Spears' makeup artist claims that the pop star is being kept from marrying her current boyfriend, Sam Asghari, in what is being described as "some Handmaid’s Tale-type things to keep her from having a baby." Maxi claims that Spears and Asghari would have been married by now, if it wasn't for the conservatorship that she's been placed under.

Britney Spears was placed under a conservatorship by a judge back in 2008, allowing her father Jamie Spears to take control of all major financial decisions in her life, and complete control of her assets. Since then, the #FreeBritney movement has been championing for Spears to have more autonomy in her life, and Spears is currently undergoing a legal battle to gain just that. Earlier this year, she managed to have that conservatorship transferred to her longtime care manager, Jodi Montgomery. For now, however, if Max is to be believed, Spears is still subject to some harsh restrictions, especially in terms of her romantic life.

"I can tell you what they’re still controlling to this day is whether she has a baby or not, whether she gets married or not, who her friends are, and those are some big things,” Maxi claimed during the 'Calababes Podcast' episode. "We’re talking about some Handmaid’s Tale-type things to keep her from having a baby. Like, we’re talking … I can’t detail it and I’m not gonna specifically say, but I will say for sure, she would’ve had a baby by now. She would’ve probably been married to Sam [Asghari] by now. She would have groups of friends around her."

According to US Weekly, Maxi also claims that Jamie Spears had always made Britney's relationship with Sam Asghari a difficult one, even in its early stages. “At that time, she was under the conservatorship basically controlled by the father, but even at that time she was able to bring in Sam as a boyfriend,” Maxi said. “Now Sam was put through hell by the father and I can’t detail all the things that he went through, but he went through a lot of hell to even be with her.”

Britney Spears and Sam Asghari met in October 2016 on the set of the 'Slumber Party' music video. The two hit it off immediately, with the couple making their relationship official with an Instagram announcement in January 2017. The two have been going strong ever since, despite the unique challenges that their relationship faces.

During the podcast, Maxi did say that Spears' situation was "getting better", especially in regards to her having more control over her own social media goes, but her father does not appear to approve of this freedom she's been given. A US Weekly insider told the magazine that Jamie Spears is "very concerned" about Britney's current direction in life, and added, "Britney is being given a lot of freedom about making her own decisions when it comes to her medical treatment. Her conservator Jodi Montgomery trusts that Britney has been dealing with this for most of her adult life and should be trusted to be given the responsibility."
