British woman on holiday in Goa raped and robbed near beachside on her way to her guesthouse
A 48-year-old British tourist was reportedly raped in Goa, in the same town where an Irish backpacker was sexually assaulted and killed last year. Reports state that the woman was attacked when she was walking towards the tourist hotspot in the state, Palolem Beach in the town of Canacona, at around 3 am on Thursday, December 20, according to police.
The woman, who has not been identified yet, reportedly left her guesthouse to catch a train from Canacona railway station to Thivim, however, after the train got delayed, she decided to walk back to her accommodation alone. The guesthouse was reportedly a mile away from the station.
She was attacked as she reached Palolem Beach, which was on the way. The attacker used force on her and took her to a paddy field on the roadside. He then hit her in the eye before raping her and then robbed her of her three bags, which she was carrying at the time. Shortly after the attack, the victim took shelter with a friend nearby before reporting the incident to police officials, according to Daily Mail.
