Woman on trial for pushing boyfriend to death from 100ft-high hotel balcony out of jealousy
The trial of British woman Mary Meyers Kayley, who allegedly killed her boyfriend in March, is underway in Turkey’s Manavgat court. The 31-year-old Scottish-born was staying with the 21-year-old victim, Reece Pegram, at a five-star hotel in Antalya when the incident happened.
Before Pegram died, the pair apparently had a fight in their blood-stained room after the accused got to know he had cheated on her with a former girlfriend. Later, Kayley allegedly pushed the man to his death from the balcony. It has been said that the father-of-one lost his life immediately after the fall on March 12 night.

During the trial, the court was told the police discovered blood stains all across the couple's room. Also, during the probe, the hotel staff told cops that both the woman and the man were drinking uncontrollably. Kayley was so intoxicated that she could not go to her room alone and the staff had to step in. “Court reports stated Pegram went to the hotel lobby around 8pm for booze but was refused service as he was already inebriated,” The Daily Mail reported. Later, an autopsy on the victim revealed that apart from alcohol, he was high on cocaine as well.
As per reports, when Kayley was interrogated, she first confessed to arguing with Pegram after he apparently cheated on her. However, she later changed her statement and claimed the blood in the room came from an accident she suffered while getting into the shower. She also claimed that blood marks on the bed were the after-effect of sex.
Kayley told the court that after fighting with Pegram, she went to take a shower but when she came back, he was not there. She then slept as police reached the location after the man’s fall. She also accused Pegram of being a drug kingpin in Britain and insisted that he had psychological issues.
She said, “Reece is one of the important drug dealers in England. He asked if there was any place to buy drugs here,” before adding, “[Reece] wanted to commit suicide because he had psychological problems. I was in the shower at this time, I accidentally cut only my right thumb when I got into the shower. When I got out of the shower, I saw the person laughing evilly to himself on the balcony and said he wanted to commit suicide, I blocked him. Meanwhile, the blood on my right thumb spattered the floor and walls of the room.”

Kayley also attempted to convince the court to dismiss her original police statement, alleging that her official interpreter did not understand her Scottish accent properly. But she did not succeed as the court told her the same interpreter is helping her in the trial. The Daily Mail report stated that Kayley was asked to undergo a mental health evaluation by the court while prosecutors want her behind bars for life. “Prosecutors believe Kayley killed her boyfriend out of jealousy. In Turkey, the minimum non-parole term for a life prisoner is 24 years,” the report added.
