British rapper 28-year-old Cadet was tragically killed in a horrific accident before he could reach his destination at the Keele University early on this morning, February 9. 

Cadet whose real name is Blaine Cameron Johnson was sitting in a taxi while heading south after his gig at Staffordshire. The Staffordshire police confirmed that officers had been called to the site of a crash which involved a Toyota Prius and a Vauxhall van in Betley a little before 1.30 am. He had been on his way to perform at the Fresh Friday Takeover night at Keele University's Student Union bar The Scruffy Squirrel.



 

The authorities shared that the 28-year-old rapper who hails from London was a passenger in the Toyota and died at the scene of the crash while the drivers of both vehicles sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital. There were three other passengers in the Toyota who were treated at the Leighton Hospital in Crewe. 

Cadet's family took to Instagram to release a statement confirming his death and said, "We the family of Blaine Cameron Johnson known as Cadet (Underrated Legend) would like to share the sad news that during the early hours of 9th February 2019 he passed away as a passenger in a taxi, en route to a performance."



 

"Right now we the family appreciate your patience and will share with you any information as and when we can. Thanks for your support in advance. Love The Johnson Family #cadetcadet #imbuff #underratedlegend #ripcadet," the statement continued. The family also made his Instagram account private.

The young rapper made a name for himself in the grime and rap scene in 2006 through a host of YouTube videos showcasing his skill in freestyle raps. He released his first mixed tape, The Commitment, in 2016. In 2017, he followed it up with Commitment II and two other singles 'Instagram Girls' and 'No More Letters' saw him take his place as a popular grime star.

Cadet is the cousin of rapper Casyo Johnson who is also called Krept. Casyo shared a childhood picture of the two cousins together and said, "My life will never be the same again..."



 

"You finally started getting the recognition you deserved. Im so proud of you. My left lung. Im devestated and broken right now [sic]" he continued. Many members of the music industry wrote in to share their tributes ever since the devastating news broke earlier on this morning. 

Rapper Giggs took to Instagram to share, "Proper sad and shocked to hear this. Really sorry to Cadets family man, prayers and blessings to his family at this hard time. RIP CADET." While musician Example shared, "Was chatting to you only last week about how excited you were for some festivals this summer. So much positive energy. Smiling nonstop when I was with you, first time we met I felt as if I’d known you my whole life. Mad humble guy. RIP Cadet."
