'Bridgerton' Season 1's costume designer Ellen Mirojnick explained to PopSugar that she chose yellow for Penelope as it represents her deceitful nature. Moreover, yellow resonated with the Regency era where yellow was popular among high society women.
If you have noticed, Penelope's costume colors change with her personality. As her alter ego of Lady Whisteldown takes over and she sits down to write a column, she dons nightgowns that don't have much color. In these moments, her mature side comes to light, contrasting to her childish side in vibrant yellow.
