Louisville Metro Police Chief Robert J Schroeder has issued a state of emergency for his department on September 21, as six officers related to the shooting of Breonna Taylor are under an internal investigation by State Attorney General Daniel Cameron, according to ABC.

While Det. Brett Hankison, who executed a “no-knock” search warrant, has been fired, six other LMPD officers were placed on administrative duty following the incident. The six officers under probe are Det. Myles Cosgrove, Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly, Det. Joshua Jaynes, Det. Tony James, Det. Michael Campbell and Det. Michael Nobles.

On March 13, 26-year-old Taylor and Kenneth Walker were sleeping in their Louisville apartment when Mattingly executed a “no-knock” search warrant. The warrant was reportedly sought by Jaynes. The officers were investigating a suspected drug operation that Walker was allegedly linked to.

The internal investigation is said to look into the actions of the officers, to see if any of the police policies were violated during the incident. According to reports, “Disciplinary action could include written reprimand and extend all the way up to termination”.

The AG hasn’t revealed the timeline for the findings of the investigation. However, the police are already preparing for it and two memos were sent to officers with regard to increasing the staffing ahead of Cameron’s announcement.

The memo states, “To ensure we have the appropriate level of staffing to provide for public safety services and our policing functions, effective immediately the LMPD will operate under the emergency staffing and reporting guidelines.” It further states that all requests by officers for time off and vacation would be canceled.

The death of Taylor has sparked nationwide protests and riots, with people calling out the police for brutality and violence. According to investigators, the officer fired shots at Taylor, killing her in her sleep. Walker has claimed that he received no response from the other side of the door when the officers rammed their door on March 13. He then used his licensed fireman to shoot at the door, after which the officers fired from the other end, striking Taylor eight times.

Anticipating Cameron’s pending announcement, a significant number of people took to Twitter to express their opinion about the internal investigation and to seek justice for Taylor. One user tweeted, "So the City of Louisville has declared a state of emergency before the grand jury hearing for Breonna Taylor’s case? I’ve already prepared myself to be upset smh". Adding to the previous tweet, one wrote, "Daniel is about to announce that they are not going to charge the cops that killed Breonna Taylor. Louisville, KY is going to riot."

Meanwhile, the majority of them are of the opinion that no appropriate action will be taken against the officers under investigation while noting that they'll get away with Taylor's killing without consequences. One tweeted, "Louisville police have canceled vacations in preparation for an announcement by the state's attorney general about whether he will charge officers involved in the shooting death of Breonna Taylor. Translation: Breonna Taylor's murderers will go free. WE RIOT AT SUNDOWN". One tweeted, "Not expecting good news. #MoscowMitch's protege, Daniel Cameron, is expected to release the Grand Jury results from his "investigation" into the murder of Breonna Taylor. I'm afraid Louisville is going to burn."
