DYERSBURG, TENNESEE: Brenton Bell, a Tennessee man who allegedly kidnapped a woman and locked her in a closet for approximately two months with little access to food or a restroom, was arrested by the police on March 15. He is now charged with aggravated kidnapping.

Police in Dyersburg, Tennessee, responded to a domestic violence complaint on Saturday, March 11, around 1:30 pm at Schaffer Street. A passerby who contacted the police told them that a 40-year-old woman ran up to a man working in a construction site in the area, said she was kidnapped, and that she had just escaped, according to a report by FOX13 Memphis.

Locked in the closet for 2 months

Responding officers reportedly found the woman hiding under a new construction home. She had facial cuts and possibly weighed less than 100 pounds. The victim told investigators she was kidnapped and was forced to stay in a locked closet for approximately two months and was only allowed out for an hour a day. She also claimed she was given little food and no access to bathroom facilities.

Police located the house where the woman was being held on Ayers Street, and they found human waste throughout the property, according to a report by the NY Post. The police also found that the suspect had allegedly kept the door bolted shut with a type of locking device and cable so that the victim could not escape. But, luckily, after being held captive for such a long time, she was able to finally escape.

The victim was taken to the West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg hospital for treatment after she was found. And a WRAP advocate was contacted to provide additional domestic violence services to the woman.

Relationship turned abusive

Bell, 30, was identified as the suspect by the victim. The victim also told police that Bell and the victim were in a relationship that allegedly turned physically abusive, resulting in his kidnapping and locking her up.

After investigating the matter, Bell was arrested and reportedly charged with aggravated kidnapping. Dyersburg police said officers apprehended the 30-year-old on Moss Street in Dyersburg without incident. And currently, he is being held pending Dyersburg City Court action.
