LONDON, UK: There was never any doubt that Brendan Fraser is a phenomenal actor and has given some really amazing performances. However, his impeccable performance in Darren Aronofsky’s ‘The Whale’ has put him back to the list of actors who made an electrifying comeback to the world of cinema. The actor is considered to be the frontrunner at this year’s Best Actor race and has been thriving this awards season. Ever since his performance started receiving praise from everywhere, fans started to reminisce about his iconic performances in the ‘The Mummy’ franchise, and recently, surprised a large group of viewers who were attending the special screenings of ‘The Mummy’ movies.

The franchise began in 1999 with ‘The Mummy’ and saw Fraser playing the lead role of Rick O’Connell, along with Rachel Weisz and John Hannah. The movie went on to be a gigantic success at the box office and earned more than $416.4 million globally.

Meanwhile, the second movie in the film series, titled ‘The Mummy Returns’, became a cult classic and was even more successful in terms of earnings ($435 million). The franchise died after the third movie which underperformed at the box office. But it seems the actor knows that he needs to be connected to his fans this time around because they have given him such a rousing reception for his performance in ‘The Whale’.

So, this week he decided to surprise fans who attended the ‘Mummy’ double feature at the Prince Charles Cinema in London, UK. In a video posted by a fan, who attended the event, Fraser received a thunderous response from the audience as they applauded the superstar. The actor thanked the audience for such a rousing reception and talked about how watching ‘Star Wars’ made him want to join movies.

“I saw ‘Star Wars’ in 1977 and it changed my life, and made me realize that I want to be in the movies. I am so proud to stand in front of you tonight because this is a film that was made in Britain. We had no idea what kind of movie we were making when we shot this. Was it drama? Was it a comedy? Or action or romance, horror, we had no idea,” Fraser said.

The star concluded by telling viewers to watch ‘The Whale’ in cinemas in February.

Although the franchise ended with ‘Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’, talk of another sequel has gathered steam since Fraser has gathered momentum in the ongoing awards season. On several occasions, the ‘George of the Jungle’ star has said that he would love to be in another ‘Mummy’ movie because of how fun those movies were.

Well, we will never say ‘NO’ to Rick O’Connell’s return and go on another adventure.

As far as ‘The Whale’ is concerned, Fraser has already picked up several Best Actor trophies in the past few weeks, including a Critics’ Choice Award. The actor is now up for a BAFTA in the same category and will be hoping to gather more momentum while leading up to the Oscars.
