‘I’m really being picky’: Brendan Fraser says he has 'nothing in the works at the moment' after Oscar win
GREENWICH, CONNECTICUT: Despite his professional comeback, Brendan Fraser has confessed he has nothing in the works at the moment. The actor, 54, finished off an astonishing Hollywood comeback in March when he won the Oscar for Best Lead Actor for his leading performance in Darren Aronofsky's film 'The Whale.'
During the opening Inspiration Talk and award ceremony of the Greenwich International Film Festival on Thursday, May 4, Fraser had a conversation with journalist Hannah Storm. When asked if he had any upcoming roles planned, he responded, "At the moment, I don't have anything - I'm really being picky right now," as per People.

'It might be a long summer'
He also made a joke of the fact that he "read the trades the other day" and that "apparently, I'm going to have to pick up a picket sign." He joked further, "It might be a long summer," referring to the Writers Guild of America strike. He did, however, note his role in Martin Scorsese murder film 'Killers of the Flower Moon' which will make its world premiere at the 76th Cannes Film Festival this month.
"I'll admit that I'm eager to see it myself," he said. "We were working in a really hot weather in Oklahoma and I can't oversell my participation in this film because it's epic," Fraser said. "There's so many actors in this movie when you see it. I'll arrive for a scene or two at the end," he added.
'Everyone is glad to stand by in a sweltering Airbnb in Oklahoma'
The movie is set in 1920s Oklahoma and follows the murders of members of the oil-wealthy indigenous Osage Nation, as well as the earliest days of the FBI's history. The film also stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Jesse Plemons. It has been adapted from the bestselling author David Grann's 2017 non-fiction book of the same name. "Everyone is glad to stand by in a sweltering Airbnb in Oklahoma," Fraser said of making the film, which he said was largely shot during the summer of 2021. "It's Scorsese."
'It's like my fantasies fulfilled'
Storm questioned Fraser about his experience working with Scorsese, and he responded, "It's like my fantasies fulfilled at what it's like to be in a Renaissance master's studio. Think about that. Somebody who has all the knowledge, hands down and surrounded by people who are so talented and enthusiastic for his vision," the actor said, adding that due to the way the director filmed the movie, "the work that we did was kind of being in an opera or a play because it was happening in real time."
His popular victory happened after he had to cope with a number of personal crises, including a divorce, the death of his mother, health troubles, and an alleged assault by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's then-president.
