It wouldn't be easy shaming women for breastfeeding in public after all the states the US legalized it recently. But if an uptight hick who still hasn't got the message and approaches you to shame you for breastfeeding your baby in public do remember this mother's epic response to a similar situation. When a stranger approached a breastfeeding Melanie Dudley and told her to cover he had no idea what he was getting into, and she taught him a lesson he is very unlikely to forget. Instead of covering herself while breastfeeding, Melanie decided to cover her head with a blanket instead. While it may not have been what the stranger had asked for, one thing is for sure, he would think twice before asking any breastfeeding mom to do the same.

The picture was shared on Facebook by Carol Lockwood from Honolulu, Hawaii and it has since gone viral. Carol, who had never met Melanie was quite impressed by her witty response to the stranger.

Sharing the post she wrote, "A friend’s daughter-in-law was told to “cover up” while feeding her baby, so she did! I’ve never met her, but I think she’s AWESOME!!!" She further added, " I’m SO over people shaming women for nursing!!!" She also explained, "PS: To reduce speculation: it was a man who asked her to cover up, it was 90 degrees and extremely humid, and, no, she wasn’t in a Muslim country disrespecting traditions.”

Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle, Melanie explained what had happened. “I was on vacation in Cabo San Lucas with my entire family and a man asked me to cover myself,” she said.  “I’m usually discreet but we were seated in the back of the restaurant.” In response, Melanie asked her husband to pass her a cover then threw it over her face.

People were quick to comment on the post with many insisting that it was time breastfeeding was seen as normal. "I don’t understand why it’s so bad we have ladies that get there boobs paint and walk around like it’s nothing but when it comes to taking care of ur kid and feeding them it’s a problem!!! We can’t fix stupid!!!!" wrote one, while another added, "Tell him to bog off can’t believe women are still being prudey if anyone has a problem where I feed my kid then move yr ass. Soon change their minds if the poor baby was crying “oh I’m just waiting till I can go home to feed my baby or think I’ll just hide here in the corner" but in the meantime carry on feeding yr kids a McD's and chocolate."

Meanwhile, there were others who applauded her for the hilarious response she had in store for the stranger. "Fantastic! Well done. Some people seem to forget that we were all babies once and mother's milk is the most natural food for a baby to have," wrote one. Another added, "The most natural way of nourishment for your baby. And a mothers bond with their child. I'd have shot the tosser."

Another user also agreed that it was the best story she had ever heard as the comment read, "Fantastic, I work for maternity and help new mums with breastfeeding every day and hear lots of stories but this is one of the best stories I have heard in a long time. Good one, some people are so arrogant she was probably doing it very discreetly as most new mums do but to cover your baby with yet another layer of material in that heat would just have been too much. You're a legend."
