'Below Deck': Is Shane experiencing a mental breakdown? Newbie pens down feelings after Eddie's constant feedback
Shane Coopersmith has caught in the crosshairs ever since the day he joined. He's the newbie and therefore, ragged often. Most people on the crew have nicknamed him "sunshine." The first two charters have not been a great experience for the environmentalist. He struggled to get the job done but was eager to learn. Things like throwing the line, meeting deadlines, showing up and being present in the moment are easily areas of improvement.
In the previous week's episode of 'Below Deck', Shane complained that he was getting only six hours of sleep when should be getting nine and the lack of sleep has been exhausting. To catch up on lost hours of rest, Shane took a noon break to get some shut-eye. Coincidentally, Eddie Lucas entered his cabin to find Shane sleeping away, which he didn't appreciate given that everyone was working and guests were on board and that meant that the crew has to be present and available for service at all times. "He'll pay the price for it," Eddie muttered as he walked across the yacht.
Shane and Eddie don't exactly have a smooth working relationship, especially after the number of times the latter has picked on his teammate for not doing a few things right. This week, we see how the constant feedback has sort of pushed Shane to the edge. He will be seen writing in his journal about the mistakes he has made and that he feels "broken down" for having not doing okay in his job. He said he was always the first-bencher with good grades, which is why he's confused about not getting things right.
Will Eddie take this up with Captain Lee Rosbach? Given their professional bond, he most likely will. And what kind of action will the Captain take? Time will tell but Shane needs to put in more work than he already has done to make sure that his position as a deckhand is solid until this season ends.
