Peacock's 'Brave New World' teaser trailer brings Aldous Huxley's iconic dystopian sci-fi novel to life
Yet another contender has joined the streaming wars, with the launch of NBC Universal's Peacock streaming service. The service had its early launch, specifically for Comcast and XFinity subscribers in the US, on April 15.
Viewers who have managed to get in on this early launch have hours of content available for streaming. But that's nothing compared to the slate of shows and movies that are being developed specifically for the service.
Among the shows that are on their way to Peacock, one particularly interesting series is an adaptation of Aldous Huxley's 'Brave New World'. This is the first series adaptation of the classic sci-fi dystopian novel and a teaser trailer for the show has now been released by Peacock.
'Brave New World' presents a world where mankind lives in bliss and serenity. Monogamy, privacy, money, family and even history itself are prohibited by law and all citizens are given a wonder drug called Soma.
Raised in this world that knows nothing but a rigid social rule and an instant gratification culture, Bernard Marx (Harry Lloyd) and Lenina Crowne (Jessica Brown Findlay) are citizens of New London who set out to explore the world beyond their society's borders by taking a vacation to the Savage Lands.
There they find themselves caught up in a violent rebellion and are rescued by John the Savage (Alden Ehrenreich) who escapes with them back to New London.
However, when John, an outsider, arrives in the city, it causes a series of changes that result in a massive social upheaval, the effects of which nobody could have possibly anticipated. The series is written by Brian Taylor, David Weiner and comics legend Grant Morrison.
The cast for 'Brave New World' includes Harry Lloyd, Jessica Brown Findlay, Alden Ehrenreich, Hannah John-Kamen, Kylie Bunbury, Demi Moore, Sen Mitsuji, Joseph Morgan and Nina Sosanya. The series was initially under development at SYFY before being shopped around to the USA Network and then finally landing at Peacock.
'Brave New World' completed filming before the coronavirus pandemic halted work on shows and movies but it's not clear when it will arrive on the streaming service.
